Norwegian fjords

Think what you'd pack for a June holiday in the north of Scotland...it will be quite similar. Rain wear above all, and some fairly sturdy shoes; a jumper or cardigan, and some sort of jacket.

It can get very warm indeed, like North Scotland, so if you pack for warm summer and wet weather, you should be OK, but that cardigan might well be necessary... :)

could anyone tell me what clothes to take.ie... jumpers jeans coat etc. seeing that this will be our first visit, we dont know what the weather will be like. so looking forw:)ard to it.

You still won't know what the weather will be like on your fiftieth visit.

It may be cold, warm, hot, wet, dry, or all of the above. Possibly all on the same day. Pack for that. It depends to some extent how far north you are going as well - Norway's a couple of thousand miles long, and the odd thousand miles further north does make a difference to the temperature.

We have been on a Norway cruise twice, last one on Britannia last year. We had daytime temperatures about 15-18c and torrential rain in Bergen.

As Bergen is Europe's wettest city we went prepared with waterproof jackets and over trousers.

We were glad to have them and stayed dry, but we did see lots of people totally unprepared and getting soaked.

The weather is like in UK, very changeable.

Once useful tip we were given is never wear denim (particularly the further north you go). Denim is a magnet for the cold so if it's cold outside the denim will trap it and hold it closer to the skin, thus making you feel colder. Secondly denim is very absorbent and if it rains will stay wet for a long time.

We are off to the Fjords in August and can't wait. We are going up to the Arctic Circle so are expecting some cooler temperatures! Hopefully the sun will shine. We have been so lucky on our previous two cruises to Norway, Bergen has been in beautiful sunshine both visits.

If you are going to Flam, remember to book the train yourselves direct, as it gets booked up and the ships excursion is £84. If you book yourself £55. The station is at the port. We went in June last year and had fabulous sunny weather. Going again this June, still going to pack a bit of everything.
