Calling Home

Do I have to buy the WiFi package to use iconcierge to call home?

No, you do NOT need the "paid" WiFi internet package to make calls for home. Just download & install the free App first, before sailing - both iOS and Android friendly - the SpeedNet App is optional to boost/cache the slow satellite connection, very high in latency.

Just alert whoever you might be calling that their CallerID will show an unfamiliar 8 digit number when you dial them, the area code is reported to be out of a Florida (3 digits) exchange - your regular cellular # is not going to come up as you only need to connect to ship's WiFi inTRAnet only.

See the uploaded attachments here (1st. three (3) pages) for details & how-to. Caution - sometimes, you can hear them but they cannot hear you but at 79 cents a minute, it's worth a try if you must call from onboard the ship while out at sea.

Have a Plan B, just in case.

If texting will work for you instead of calling, you can do that while at sea with most cellar providers for just .50c each sent and .05c each received. It's SMS only though, no pictures. No wifi is required. You just leave "voice on while roaming", data off. However, if you get incoming calls, unless you want to pay about $2.50 a minute for that, don't answer and don't check voice mail.

You have to pay for the iConcierge service, not the Wi-Fi service. Once you pay for iConcierge, it’s $0.79 per minute to call home.

The flip side is to pay for Wi-Fi and use internet phone calling to call home
