I would think it depends on how far out you are and really, a big luck of the draw.

If it's for an accessible cabin for 3 on the Caribbean Princess November 20th, you're 100% out of luck - I have it booked and we are going. :D

I would check the website everyday or a couple of times a day, if its important to you.

If someone cancels, the cabin shows up online immediately, and it may take a while for them to get back to you for the wait list.

This cruise has been sold out for quite some time. It's unlikely that you'll make it, but maybe you'll get lucky.

Ship shows sold out but they are up selling balcony to mini suites $750/pp

that close to sail date - I'd say you're less likely. If it's past final payment date, most people are booked into the cabin they want/need; at this point, your only hope is that 2 accessible cabins cancel (one for the first person on the waiting list and a second for you). Considering how few accessible cabins are on the ship, I don't see it being likely that 2 couples would have unforeseen issues that cause them to cancel.
