Google Hangouts --Does it work on the social wifi package

Has anyone tried to use google hangouts while using the social package? The reason I am asking is because my 8 year old has this on her tablet and she will be home while I am on the ship and I am sure she will message me. She doesn't have facebook or any other social media apps

It didn't used to work, but on our last cruise it did.

I wonder is it varies by ship? Which ship were you on?

We use it on the medium level of wifi packages. It has worked on all of the ships that we have been on in the last 2 to 3 years. We use it to keep in touch with caregivers of elderly family member.

If you put the Whatsapp app on her tablet you can send texts and picture texts back and forth on the Social plan.

Does anyone know if FB messages app works? The calling/video feature on this? I will,be on a girls trip so it will be nice to check in with hubby and see the kids.

Facebook messenger works but the video feature is a bit slow. For the best connection for video chatting, try using it during a port day when many are off of the ship

It worked on the Sunshine last month with the social plan. Sending / receiving pictures with it didn't.
