kirsty_r Posted February 17, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 17, 2014 its terrible news - but a freak storm- the pictures of which look horrific, and thousands are still flooded in the south of England. However, I don't believe the ship was poorly maintained as stated - it flew through the safety inspection before departing on its next cruise. Saying lots of prayers for the wife - it cannot be easy for her. its incredible how strong waves can be in stormy conditions.
tring Posted February 18, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 18, 2014 Oceana was due to leave Southampton on that day, but was kept in port overnight. One wonders if the ship should have sheltered in port in Northen France as the storm was well forcast. I aggree it is sad for the widow and also other people who were injured - there were a lot from what has been in the news.
