Cruisin' Librarian Posted July 9, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 9, 2018 Does anyone have experience with a motorized scooter in a standard veranda balcony cabin? We will be sailing on the Solstice in August and are considering renting a motorized scooter for one of our travel group who has diminished stamina from chemotherapy. Our TA has checked with the cruise line -- no HC cabins are available, but the cabin door is 26" and the scooter is 21". Our concern is whether we will be able to get the scooter into the room far enough to be somewhat out of the way and close enough to the electrical plugs for charging. The cabin is #7290 and will be configured with two beds. Our friend can walk; we just all feel that he will enjoy the cruise a lot more if he is able to motor along when tired from walking, and won't have to stay back and feel that he is missing out on all of the fun both in the ports and on the ship. I have searched the CC forums and have found a lot of good information in the Handicapped Cruisers section, but nothing specific to this ship. Thank you for any insight anyone can share. Knolmom Posted July 9, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 9, 2018 You have to make sure that your bed is by the balcony because you won’t be able to get it past the bed. In that case, you won’t be able to charge it as the batteries are not detachable. When you say ‘one of our party’ do you mean you have more than 2 people in the cabin? Not going to work. I use a motorized scooter but it is collapsible and it is still almost impossible for 2 of us to get around. We fold it up and store it in the closet at night and ask out room steward to remove the cocktail table. I have only used a rented scooter twice and both times it was in a HC and then a Sky suite. Even then it took up a lot of room.
WestLakeGirl Posted July 9, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 9, 2018 Your steward can help with moving the scooter to a location outside of the room where it can be charged overnight. This will work because the user is actual mobile and just needs the scooter for distances, not within the stateroom
Rare Essiesmom Posted July 9, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 9, 2018 Fortunately, 7290 is between quad cabins, so will have the bed by the balcony. EM
