Is there a 'better' side of the ship to be on for good views?

You will have a great veiw of the ocean from either side, port or starboard!

It depends on what you consider "good views". The Oasis class ships predominantly tie up to the pier with the starboard side facing the pier. However, they can, and do tie up with the port side to the pier. (They do this, for example, when they need to exercise the starboard side lifeboats).

So there is not a hard and fast rule as to which side does what during a specific cruise.

We prefer the starboard side, since that is usually the side towards the pier and we like to watch people and the pier-side activities.

Doesn't matter...the ocean in on BOTH sides of the ship! As far as ports, they try to give equal time to each side, when possible.

Right side facing forward is starboard.

When looking at deck plans is the left side the starboard?

If the deck plan has the usual arrangement with the bow of the ship at the top of the page, then starboard is the right side.
