Caribbean PR Princess Posted March 16, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 16, 2018 I am curious as to others’ experience traveling solo with children. I did it with Disney and it was great because they sit you with other single parents at dinner. But Disney is so expensive that I am hoping to hear of similar positive experiences for single parents with other cruise lines. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks. Rare Keith1010 Posted March 16, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 16, 2018 You will get advice here but you may want to post this on the solo cruisers board at: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=-1&f=373 I would also post it on the Family Cruises board at: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=-1&f=49 Keith
cb at sea Posted March 16, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 16, 2018 On all the "mainstream" lines (except NCL) there is a "traditional seating" option for dinner. When you book, request that type of seating, and ask for a LARGE table, so that you will be seated with others. They try to put "families" with other families. They won't seat you will a table full of "couples"! We enjoy tablemates, and look forward to catching up nightly with our new dining friends! Never known any rhyme or reason as to how people are seated for dinner. Definitely do not put families together specifically on RC. To OP, suggest a cruise that is a 7-day; longer cruises tend to attract an older crowd and less kids. Would suggest early seating, if you choose early seating; again more families and kids. Also suggest joining your roll call to see if there are other families with kids the same as yours. If you have older kids suggest that they go to the first night of the kids club, as often times teens and pre teens strike up friendships. Research and choose your ship carefully. For example, on Royal Caribbean the bigger ships have more activities and amenities for kids.
