nancyevans Posted October 18, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 18, 2017 Wonderful! I have always lived near the Ohio River. The Delta Queen was a regular part of my childhood. I can remember hearing her calliope from my home over 55 years ago. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare steamboats Posted October 18, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 18, 2017 Actually this has been the plan of the owners since they´ve taken over. As for the exemption it has never been a "wooden hull" thing. The Delta Queen has a steel hull. The superstructure is made mainly out of wood (but strengthened with steel poles and more over the decades). There´s still a lot of renovation work waiting for the owners which will cost a lot of money. So far the DQ is still in Houma, LA, being taken care but only necessary repairs are done. The owners are still waiting for the exemption but working hard on it. You can help and contact your representatives and ask them for support. So far they have 40 co-sponsors. steamboats
