kimlovesfl Posted January 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 20, 2017 We're looking at a Vancouver-Vancouver Alaska cruise in May 2018, visiting Glacier Bay National Park. Prices are essentially the same (difference of $50-$100 for same cabin class). On our Regal cruise last week, we went to a presentation on Alaska, and the cruise consultant said she wasn't crazy about the Island Princess. What are your thoughts? We're looking at a balcony cabin.
Potstech Posted January 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2017 (edited) Star Princess. It was great in May when we were on her for our North bound cruisetour. Edited January 20, 2017 by Potstech
skynight Posted January 20, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2017 Star for sure. A few years ago the Island had major renovations that basically took away the entire aft area for public use by adding cabins on most decks for an additional 200+ passengers. They also removed lots of upper deck viewing areas, the Universe Show Lounge and more. There is no International Cafe on the Island.

I would just replace the term "renovations" with "downgrading". I also found the Star to be very good.

This is EXACTLY why the on board cruise consultant didn't like the Island. Thanks, all, I have a cruise chosen, now I am just waiting for some specials before I book.
