Is there a way to hang out at Atlantis without paying for an excursion?

I just looked a few posts down and saw that some are buying rooms at the Comfort Suites for a pretty good price and getting passes to Atlantis...at least...I think that's what they are saying. I think I read they buy the room and don't even stay there and just take advantage of the passes included in the room rate. Maybe give Comfort Suites a call and asked them about the deal. Suggest calling the Comfort Suites direct in Nassau.

Anybody else have some recommendations? I also thought I read some where you can go after 6:30pm and its costs nothing. Appreciate your help!!!! I have the same question!!! :):D;)

I just checked on the Comfort Suites and it is true, but $181 a night for when we will be there. Maybe just because it is so far in advance. You can pull them up on Hotels dot com and read that it is a service that comes with the room.

Yes, Atlantis has a casino as well as a shopping mall area and many nice restaurants. You can see some on the aquarium from the lobby and you can walk down the beach. But with all that said there is soooooo much more to see and do there if you do purchase a day pass. The “Big Dig” is out of this world, the different pools and slides if you have kids. It’s a GREAT day for sure. Going to be spending the day there myself in a couple weeks.

My DH and I are staying at Atlantis right now. They are really enforcing the rules. We just get a wrist band everyday so we don't have to keep showing our key. There are quite a few day pass people here as there have been several ships in port the last few days. We've walked through the Dig at least 15 times the last few days. Not everything is open though. Some restaurants are still closed and the Beach Tower and everything on that side is currently closed (Lazy River included). Season starts in a few weeks and by then everything will be open.

 The lazy river is closed??? I hope they get that opened up soon as we're planning on spending the the day there in about 2 1/2 weeks.

The lazy river is the original CALM ride that is located between the Beach Towers and Coral Towers. It's not the Current/Rapids that is located in the new aquapark.

Lazy River will likely stay closed until the Xmas holidays as it did last season.

Is the Lagoon Bar with the shell top currently open? We stayed in Atlantis after New years once and it was closed then but opened on a December excursion for a cruise I took with my daughter.

Great spot for a pinacolada:D:D

What is the Big Dig? Also, I am interested in JUST seeing the aquarium at Atlantis. Can I get a ticket for just this? Is it worth it?

The Dig is the aquarium part. It is quite the place. It is $34 per person. I think it is worth doing at least once, but we had access when we stayed there. If that is all you want to do then yes, it is worth checking out. Make sure you check out all of The Dig. The little locations and different areas, don't be afraid to spend time in there and bring your camera.

Hi,

We are interested in Atlantis. Our ship will only be there from 8:30 a.m.to 2:00 p.m. on a Sunday. I would not think this is enough time to really enjoy everything there. Especially...losing a little time to get there and back to the ship. Do you agree? So...if we just wanted to pay to see the Digs....it will be $34 dollars right? What else can we tour on the island that is free? What else is there to do that would require a fee? What's the best way to go across...taxi or water taxi? Is one faster than the other? Thank you for all your help!:)

Taxis are $4pp each way to Atlantis at the taxi area-- they cram you into big vans -- lots of them. You go to the main area of Atlantis and at the desk they sell the tickets (wristband) to the Dig (down an elevator). After that, if you have time, there is another area in the back that has a different display of fish. With some gambling (unless you win)! and some shopping time, in all not more than 2 hours. Enjoy. Vicki:)

I am also wanting to see the Dig and have no interest in using the pools, waterpark or beach. Are the $34 passes limited like the $110 day passes are?

Lagoon bar is closed. It is currently under renovation. Also the predator lagoon tunnel area deadends because of the closure of the bar. I don't know how long it will be closed but they were working on it the 5 days we were there. There's some other renovations going on too, but those don't affect daily operations-new roofs on Shark Bites and a few other buildings and painting in the hotel itself, particularly the hallway leading to the conference center where there are several shops.

We came home Monday and we wish we were still there lol!

You are correct, that will not be enough time. The water park area really doesn't open until 10:00 a.m. also. Land taxis would be my recommendation. They will get you there a bit more quickly and will drop you at the entrance. Water taxi will wait to fill and then drop you in the marina, that still requires a pretty lengthy walk to the entrance. You can explore the area, but you can not use the amenities unless you pay. You can use the casino, eat in the restaurants, browse the shops, but you can't use the pools or beach or water slides without the pass. The Dig is a great area, but there are also outdoor lagoon areas with fish, sharks, etc. You can also view The Dig from above. As mentioned to do all this will only be a few hours, but that might be plenty if your ship departs at 2:00. You can also explore the Marina Village area with its shops, and luxury yachts - no cost. There is a Starbucks there and Johnny Rockets and Haagen Daaz and a juice bar. There is also a little shopping plaza across the street that will have Paradise Island souveniers for less money than Atlantis souveneirs. Cigar shop and liquor store there as well.

Wow.....thanks for the information. A few more questions please. You stated water taxi will wait to fill and then drop you in the marina, that still requires a pretty lengthy walk to the entrance.

How far is the lengthy walk to Atlantis?

You can explore the area, but you can not use the amenities unless you pay. Amenities such as?

Which would you recommend Wog for the money? Keep in mind we won't visit the beach but is it a better deal anyway compare to the other?

I forget exactly where the ferry drops you, but it is not right at the front door. I think it is approx. 7-10 mins from ferry location to doors of Atlantis.

By amenities, I mean, water slides, pools, towel huts, chairs, etc.

There are a bunch of smaller lagoons that have sea life in them throughout the property. I don't know if it is worth an additional $30 just to find those if you don't plan on using the beach as well. That is a personal call for you. It is fun to come upon them while walking around, but that was during our week stay. For just a day, and limited in time at that, it may not be worth it, but you have to make that call. I included a link to the resort map. They have all the sea life lagoons and habitats listed. That will give you an idea. The predator lagoon is cool. The tunnels that go under the sharks is really neat, The Dig is worth it. Good luck deciding.

We did it in 2007 on the Glory - same port time 8:30-2. We were off the ship, checked in/out at CS, wandered through the lagoons and and got our wrist bands by 9:15. We found chairs and waited for the slides to open at 10am. The kids did the slides, I did the lazy river. We had a great time. We hit the dig about 12:30, in a taxi back by 1 and back on the ship in plenty of time. We even had time to buy some t-shirts at the port. We got the room for $200 plus tax and fees for 2 adults & 2 kids - totally worth it for us!
