We are thinking of organizing a Slot Pull on an up-coming cruise. Any suggestions on how to organize and run it? I have participated in one where everyone contributed a set amount and then had a set amount of "pulls" based on the $ amount playing. For example, $9 per person on $3 machine yields 3 turns per person.
Any suggestions on picking out a machine - progressive or otherwise?

Once play begins does it always continue until everyone has their turn, or could you stop, cash out and then continue until all had a turn if a fairly large amount was won?

Any and all advise welcomed.

I remember of one group that did it with $15 per person .... playing a $1 machine that called for $3 max credit per pull ... so each got 5 tries.

Having organized these before I would check with the casino manager. Let him or her know you are bringing a group of however many people down and usually they will help you decide what machine depending on how many people you have, etc. They will also tell you what time is best to come down and usually do it with you and divide out how much is left over and get the change from the cage to hand out. Gareth was the casino manger on the Jewel (then I think went to the Gem) and he was awesome to deal with. He gave everyone a free drink while they waited for him to get the money (all $11 per person) and he cheered us on. Bring a sign up slip to your meet and greet and announce when the slot pull will be and where to meet up. Tell everyone to have exact change whether it is $15, 20 or whatever denomination machine you are playing. Also, see if there are any Europeans on your list that can claim a big win (hopefully) if it happens as Americans have to get a 1099 over $1200 (in one pull - not total sum) (or $1250 - can't remember exactly). If no one can claim it then you have to do something like you will claim it for 20% off the top to pay your taxes and then split the remaining. Sorry to ramble on.

GASP!! NO that would really complicate things! Keep it simple. Agree on a set amount. Always play "max bet" for each pull. Coordinate with the casino manager. Keep the group size manageable (25-30 is good).

Thank you so much for the great information which we will be sure to take advantage of. My next question would be whether or not it is posible to make contact with the Casino Director prior to the cruise, and if so, how one does that?
Again, thank you for the fast and excellent replies. Beth (jerbeth)

And if you advise a casino manager in advance and he helps select the machine, don't you think that he is going to persuade you to a machine that has the lowest odds of paying out, or that the machine he suggests will be tightened up a little bit more than usual and lower the odds of paying out??? Just saying.

I absolutely agree that I would not give the Casino advance warning of your arrival. I have run 2 slot pulls on 2 different ships. I never notified the Casino Manager in advance other than when we all walked into the casino. IMHO this gives them less time to "possibly" set the machine to pay off less. Maybe you would miss out on a free drink but I would rather win lots of money. The Casino manger and her staff were excellant when they saw so many people who were going to participate.

Here is what I posted on Cruise Critic on the thread for our cruise:

THE SLOT PULL
HOW DOES IT WORK? - Everyone who wants to participate will bring their $15.00 to the meeting spot. You will each get five (5) pulls on a dollar slot machine that utilizes $3.00/pull. The winning money will accumulate in the machine and that will be divided among the participants at the end of all pulls. The payoffs will be in even dollars.
The extra money above the even dollars will be awarded to the player who gets the group the highest amount on their slot pulls. Each person’s winnings will be recorded at the time of their pulls so we know who will get the side pot of the money after the even dollar pay-out.

WHEN WILL WE DO THIS? - We will meet XXXXXXXXX @ XXX on the starboard side of the casino Fiesta Deck 6 just outside the Casino. We will all go into the Casio together and start our play.
Payoffs will be handled immediately afterwards and handed out to all who joined in the Slot Pull.
· If you wish to participate, please give me your name and cabin # in case there is any change at all in the schedule and I can notify you. We need more people to make this lots of fun, so please join in. This is what I need for those who want to participate:
o Your names – first names only for each person who is going to participate.
o Your cabin # in case there is any change in plans and I can call and leave a message in your cabin
If you do not want to post that information here, you can email me at XXXXXXXX
By having this information in advance, I can make up a chart at home to track names the amount each person wins on their pulls.

I also have an Excel spread sheet that you can print in advance to track how much each person won for the group. If you will give me your email address, I will forward that spread sheet.
These are always great fun.

Ann, this is so helpful. Would love the spreadsheet, please send to me at: [email protected]. Perhaps a silly question, but is there a particular reason why you would track how much people win for the group? Beth

Beth,

The extra money above the even dollars will be awarded to the player who gets the group the highest amount on their slot pulls. Each person’s winnings will be recorded at the time of their pulls so we know who will get the side pot of the money after the even dollar pay-out.

Let me explain this - Yes, I have tracked the amount won for the group by individuals because we have never paid out cents on the Slot Pull. Only even money. So there is bound to be left over money and that goes to the one person who won the most over-all.
Say you have 30 people in the Slot Pull and at the end there is $853 in the machine. $853 divided by 30 people is $28.3333 each. But you are only going to give them back $28.00 each as you do not want to pay all the change to each one. So if you give $28 to 30 people, that is $840. But you had a total on the machine of $853 so you have an extra $13 and that, in additon to their $28, goes to the person who won the group the most.
You should also have a very small calulator so you can figure the even amount for each person and tell the cashier that you want 30 piles of $28 each and then the extra $$$. They are more than happy to give you the correct amount for each person. This eliminates all the change.
I will send you the spreadsheet to your email also.

Thanks for this thread. I hadn't thought about having an international person involved. Yes, the limit is $1,200 which is won on one pull...not accumulated. Last year on NCL we all agreed to play until our original amount was gone. I think we all ended up taking $30 away. But I do think the group needs to have an agreement on the "when" to stop. I know it was a blast. Our crazy CC bunch even started doing the conga dance around. Everyone thought we were nuts. And yes, we were...but that's what a CC bunch is like during a slot pull. We have one coming up on the Emerald in a few weeks...can't wait.

We had a slot pull on the Golden and our group loaded the entire pool amount into one machine and we pulled until that sum was exhausted. We never touched the credits, which were cashed out and everyone ended up with a dollar in the end. It was fun but went very very fast. We all just stared at each other like "is that it" and went our separate ways. Since that is a real possibility, maybe make some kind of a progressive reinvest with some/all winnings into a larger possible payout on a different machine (within reason of course) and make the slot pull last more than 5 minutes. just a thought!

The first time I did this we had about 80 people and everyone mingled and talked while others were taking their turns on the machine. I guess it had helped too that we had had a Meet And Greet several days prior and everyone got to know the other people then. It took us about 1 1/2 hours to complete the whole thing and we created a large commotion in the casino. It was fun.

Hi there, if you're still watching this thread, I would love to get a copy of your spreadsheet. I'm organizing a slot pull on my upcoming Celebrity cruise. I've got about 40 registered so far and I'm having organizational anxiety! My email is CLS711 @ aol . com.

Thanks!
