Christchurch (Lyttelton), New Zealand 8:00 AM-6:00 PM

I am not sure if Christchurch will be taking visitors when you are there due to the earthquake. They had another one yesterday.

If they are, I suggest the Antartic centre.

It was easy to get to when we were there. Ship's shuttle to town, then the centre had their own minibus which took us there.

As I said Christchurch may be out of action for a while, not sure when you are cruising so I would come back here closer to the date for more info.

When is your cruise?

Yesterday ( 13th June) there were several earthquakes the largest magnitude 6, the aftershocks have continued all last night and today.

The beautiful Rose Window in Christ Church Cathedral was shattered.

Not until March 2012, but planning ahead.

We spent the day in Christchurch.

All of this depends on your interests.

We spent a few hours at the Botanical Gardens, also visited several historic buildings and museums. We also took a punt (flat boat almost like a gondola) and it was a nice way to view other areas of Christchurch plus the guide gave us lots of interesting information about the history of this beautiful city.

There is so much more to see and we spent hours walking around the entire downtown area.

We were there five days before the major earthquake earlier this year and since then there have been other earthquakes and aftershocks so as I write this I realize that many of the buildings that we visited including the church have been badly damaged.

I am not sure what all will look like in March of 2012 if there continues to be more earthquakes.

You time to do lots of research.

It depends on your interests, as to what you do ashore.

You may be interested in the train trip or a visit to wineries etc.

Hadn't heard about the Rose Window. That's a real shame.
