Karen Lynn Posted April 6, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2004 I am planning a last minute trip to mark the end of my daughters first year of University. We are 2 friends with 2 daughters aged 20. I can get an Oceanview cabin on the Century or an inside on the Caribbean Princess....any thoughts appreciated! Rare Coral Posted April 6, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2004 I think the daughters would have more fun on Princess. I was 29 when I sailed Celebrity and was bored. If it was just the "parents" - I would probably say Century.
zurmolly Posted April 6, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2004 I replied on the Celebrity board..
Helen Posted April 7, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 7, 2004 Have sailed on Princess 4 times and only once on Celebrity but it was on the Century and My sister and I had a wonderful time. The food and service was great and the young ones on the cruise seemed to have as good a time as we did. I think your daughter would enjoy either. No complaints here with either cruise line. jtorban Posted April 7, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 7, 2004 My son is currently on the Caribbean Princess. His first comments when he checked into his outside balcony cabin was "It's not as nice or as large as Royal Caribbean, it's just ok" that was his first impression on a brand new ship
quote:
Originally posted by Karen Lynn: I am planning a last minute trip to mark the end of my daughters first year of University. srphnx Posted April 7, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 7, 2004 Hello, I have sailed Celebrity Century twice and Princess Star which is similar to the Carribean. I have to say there are differences in a few areas. I think Celebrity is trying to be a bit more "5 star" and in some areas does very well, cuisine being one. I think the Carribean will be a better suited ship for the younger travelers as was stated above. As far as ships go, I much prefer the architecture of the Princess, the Italian design of the Celebrity fleet does some odd start and stop things with decks that always bugged me when trying to get from one end to the other. I vote with my $$ and our next three cruises are on Princess but if someone said "you can only sail Celebrity", I would find a way to suffer through it. OH... Princess has the better Pizza, HANDS DOWN. Alaska Diamond Princess 05/04 Mercury 06/02 Rhapsody o.t. Seas 05/98 Legend o.t. mattinla Posted April 7, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 7, 2004 The Century has a very loyal fan base of devotees.. but Celebrity is known for an older crowd who enjoy more refined cuisine and entertainment. The Caribbean Princess is aimed squarely at mainstream Caribbean cruising... You can all have a great time on her.. whereas I think the daughters will be a little bored on Celebrity. Plus Caribbean Princess has the world's first real outdoor nighttime movies at sea. Just read a review of this feature and I would sail her just to see the jumbo screen at the back. JanetMarie Posted April 7, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 7, 2004 Well, as an Elite member of Princess, and many sailings on her ships, my vote is for Princess. We cruised 3 weeks ago on "X" for the first time and were not really impressed with the line. What's more important to you - a cabin or the festivities, ports, etc. on the ships which you are looking at... Whatever your decision, enjoy! OUR NEXT ONWARD JOURNEY! Karen Lynn Posted April 7, 2004 Author #10 Share Posted April 7, 2004 Thanks all for your help! The Caribbean Princess is sold out so our choices just got smaller:-)I am planning it for next March though.. My friend and I will visit her Travel agent later and see what she is saying. She said there was a 5hr sale yesterday with RCL and my agent didn't even tell me despite the fact he sure knew I was looking!I have given up with the internet sites...they either don't have the price as advertised or it is all sold out anyways. Thanks again! Brilliance Of The Seas ~ 03/7-17/03 Mariner of the Seas ~ 12/21-28/
srphnx Posted April 7, 2004 #11 Share Posted April 7, 2004 That is certainly not the case with most of the internet sites, I know of several where the service is outstanding and you get a much better price with a high volume cruise specialist. Don't forget to check even after booking no matter who you do it with.
quote:
Originally posted by Karen Lynn: Thanks all for your help!
