OptionAnon Posted April 8, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2004 Not porthole cabins, but regular oceanview rooms -- do the windows slide open wide? Could one even peer out down to the water if they wanted to?
Pam in CA Posted April 8, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 8, 2004 Nope. That's called a "balcony." srphnx Posted April 8, 2004 #3 Share Posted April 8, 2004 A standared outside cabin does not offer fresh air as one of it's features. We usually book cheapest available, and are often "upgraded" to an outside from the inside we paid for. The difference is minor at best, I like to nap mid-day and the insides are much better for this. Alaska Diamond Princess 05/04 Mercury 06/02 Rhapsody o.t. harry Posted April 9, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 9, 2004 I have a comment here. Ture the inside is usually less expensive, however if there is a day or too at sea I like the sun coming in....a port everyday Like I had on the Dawn in October I dont think the Balcony was necessary...enjoyable but not necessary. By the way I like the sliding doors on Princess rather than swing doors on Carnival. I also do not think that one should book the least expensive room and expect an upgrade. On a recent Carnival shuip my brother was on a woman said she needed a different room becasue she was claustrophobic. I think she booked the indide and was being sly expecting/demanding and upgrade. srphnx Posted April 9, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 9, 2004 You don't book an inside "expecting" an upgrade, as eveyone says book what you are happy with and take the upgrade if you get it. I am always happy to be aboard no matter what as I have cruised very often, I know exactly how much time I am in the cabin, for what reason and how much space means to me, I won't pay several hundred dollars more for a window or balcony, I can book another cruise for that money, but if you do.. good for you I am happy that you are happy. Alaska Diamond Princess 05/04 Mercury 06/02 Rhapsody o.t. Nitemare Posted April 9, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 9, 2004 The windows DO open. Once. It ain't easy to do and your steward won't be very happy with you!
CGT Posted April 10, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 10, 2004 In classic days, portholes did open on the higher up decks (and remember all cabins were in the hull, not the superstructure) to let in fresh air.
Jacqueline Posted April 10, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 10, 2004 If you like a dark room, an inside will be the ticket. Actually teens and young people who have late nights tend to love these. They have been known to roll a towel and place it at the crack undre the door so even a ray of light will not penetrate.
