NCL port times

We are on the NCL Jewel Sep. 30, 2009, NYC r/t to Quebec from NYC. This will be our 12th cruise & all the others require passengers to be back on board after port stops one half hour to one hour before sailing. Info from NCL requires TWO hours & also a two hour delay to leave the ship. For example, the stop in Boston is only seven & one half hours. That only leaves three and one half hours to visit Boston. Am I missing something? Thanks.

That message on the NCL site is badly worded. Just like all the other lines you may have been on, you need to be back on board no later than one-half hour before the ship sails on to the next port. And there is no "two hour delay to leave the ship". Both those messages have to do with the first day of your cruise (when you DO have to be on board no later than 2 hours before your first sail-away), and then on the last day, when you're leaving the ship for the last time, they say there will be a 2 hour delay from the time the ship gets into the final port to when they start releasing passengers..but generally it's more like 1-1/2 hours.

I just took that cruise last fall and had plenty of time to see some of Boston, and have a leisurely lunch with friends while there. It's a nice cruise.

Do pay attention to the time thing, though -- they change times as they go up the coast and in to Canada. Your nightly newsletter will tell you when to adjust your watches an hour ahead or behind, and then you'd also need to check as you exit the ship, just to be sure your watch matches "ship time"!

NCL allows passengers to leave the ship as soon as it is cleared and asks that you are back 30 minutes before the advertised sail time. I think this is what other lines do too.

Check your daily newspaper on board for port times and all aboard time.

The 2 hour thing is for the day of embarkation when they have to give in a passenger manifest that is complete with everyone who is onboard the vessell.
