New Ship's for Princess?

Seems like the writer either did this a while ago or didnt research his or her story well enough ! ... Meyer are able to now build ships upto 180,00 tons, you only have to look at the Celebrity ships built there in recent years to know that its wrong.

In 2002 MEYER WERFT made the biggest investment in the history of the company: a second building dock and pre-fabrication halls equipped with state-of-the-art laser welding plants were built. In 2008 the dock was extended by 120 m. These premises provide the best possible conditions for the construction of all customary ship sizes (up to 180,000 gt).

I hope they're a different class of ships. Princess could do with something fresh and innovative. Even though I like Princess' product I would love to see new stateroom layouts, they could be a little larger. Expand the anytime dining options, at the moment its not really a choice in different cuisine it's only a choice in time. The one thing I do miss with multiple dining venues are the grand dining rooms that are now becoming fewer and smaller on newer ships. You can't have everything but you can try......;)

Just because they can build ones that big, keep in mind that they still have to sail the Ems river. They had quite the difficulty with the Celebrity ships.

Greg .... if Meyer didnt think they could get them out and down the river Ems they would not have extended their covered building dock by 120 metres nor increase their build spec`s to over 130,000 tons ! it was clearly done to compete with other yards like Fincantieri.

We were told on the Emerald a week ago by numerous staff that Princess will get a new ship in 2012.

Until the US$ gets stronger vs. the Euro, you won't see any orders for new ships. That's an economic reality. It takes about 18 months to build a ship from laying the keel to maiden voyage so if a ship were going to be built for Princess for 2012, the order would have to be placed within the next year. That's very iffy in today's economic climate.
