Port of Brownsville...cruiseport??

According to this news article they say they are exploring it.

There are so many reasons why no one should ever do this. "Why would one want to cruise out of Brownsville?" for starters. From what I've heard, it's not the nicest of areas anyways. Maybe they want to go there for the lore of South Padre Island.

Other reasons why this is a bad idea:

What does everyone else think?

FYI

A new Mexican resort is going in south of US border 200 miles below Brownsville at Village of La Pesca on mouth of Rio Soto La Marina.

Now it is small fishing village.

Mexican Govt. says it will be another Cancun!

Should think it would be new cruise destination someday.

How these two ideas mesh or conflict I don't know.

I have vacationed and fished there a few times.

They would have a horrible time with flights. As Harlingen is the closest airport, it is very small and still a good trip to Brownsville. If they think Galveston is hard to get to, this would be worse!

It is an insane idea - but there is an airport at Brownsville. I know there are several Continental flights each day between Houston and Brownsville. In the past, other airlines have also flown into Brownsville. Don't know if that is still the case.
