Eze or Old Town Nice

We are at Port in Monte Carlo from 10AM-7PM. We plan to take the little tourist train around Monte Carlo and Monaco to see the highlights (the Casion gardens, the cathedral, the castle, etc) before heading onto another location. I would like to chose Eze or the Old town of Nice as a first stop (by bus) and it time permits, we will visit the second location.

I am leaning toward Eze and the gardens, but I want your experienced input. Oh, and I would like to leave us enough time to stop back in Monte Carlo to at least see the inside of the Casino and maybe place a bet or two.

I have not spent any time in the Old Town part of Nice. BUT, we did visit and love Eze. Below are my notes and how to get added info for there.

COASTAL SUGGESTION: The old village of Eze, along the coast between Nice and Monaco, hangs up in the mountains above the water and crowds. It's wonderful to visit. Great, great views! Totally charming! Have lunch or dinner there at one of the two great eating places and feel like you're sitting on the edge of paradise! At 1,407 feet above the Mediterranean, Eze offers commanding views of cliffs, sea, sprawling estates and off-shore islands. The village's narrow streets or more really paths among the buildings lead to the Jardin Exotique It is a maze of paths flanked by mammoth flowering plants and spiky cactuses. For about $3, you can walk up to the best view on the French Riviera. On a clear day, you can see Corsica! It does not get much better than Eze. Their tourism office:

Well, Nice was kinda nice...the farmers market ..just wow..

I've never seen sooooo many olive options in my life

However, I think Nice is a bit overrated.

I kept hearing about the beaches..

um, this California girl is accustomed to SAND as her beach

so, that was a bit of culture shock

Anyway, EZE is wonderful, charming, picturesque....it is a truly a do not miss!

They might try and take you to a perfume factory and of course it's free,

because they are hoping you will buy something. it's interesting, but way too time consuming to deal with as a port time activity...tell them you don't want it...More time in Eze IMHO is much more important.

If you get back to the South of France again...you can do the perfume tour!

Think you will be hurrying too much with such short time in port....Nice is wonderful, not the beach but OLd Town and many museums, restaurants, etc...get a guidebook and read about what sounds interesting to you, then plan from there..We just spent 3 days in Nice, 1 in Monaco. and still didnt see it all.Monaco is nice ,but crowded and really only Palace and Casino to see, which is not our thing, per se....missed Eze,but had seem many small towns on our riverboat ride previously.Just dont rush and miss great things to say you ve been there;;;;;;);)

Not to add another option- But have you considered St Paul de Vence?

I studied in France, and Eze was my favorite placeon earth..UNTIL.. we visited St Paul last year....

We did Nice, St Paul, Eze, Antibes AND Monaco all in one day last year with a private tour... I would have skipped Eze for more time in St Paul in hindsite.

We went in Sept to the port of Villefranche, and we did Eze and Old Town Nice by public transit. If I have to choose one, it'll be Eze, because the old town feel exists in other ports, like Genoa and Barcelona, but as a mountain top village with breath-taking views, Eze is unique to the French Riviera.

However there are many more shops in Nice and you can spend more time there.
