Well, we're already booked on the JEWEL for Jan 2011............I'm hoping this won't be a big thing, and won't last long......lol. I'll see what's up around final payment time, and switch over to the GEM again if it looks like we will be overwhelmed with kids and characters.

I think it's a little early to decide that this will ruin an adult's ability to enjoy themselves. I wouldn't recommend one of the annual theme cruises, as these will likely be geared towards filling the ship with Nickelodeon fans (as they have on other lines), but until we get a little more information, we don't really know how 'imposing' the activities will be. Keep in mind, Disney's been doing this sort of thing on their ships all along and there are many adults who swear by them.

I'm going to wait and see. We're booked on the Epic in December, and I'm looking forward to spending time with my daughter. Since I despise Spongebob, I'm hoping that there will be plenty of places to do that where Nickelodeon is not present, including the water park area. I'm not opposed to having some organized entertainment - I've certainly endured many a 'hairy legs contest' that didn't appeal to me, so I'm sure I could sit through a little kid stuff if that's what was going on. :)

I know for sure that Snow White and Mickey and Minnie are no way near as annoying as Sponge Bob and crew.

I am not so concerned about "characters" and some poolside acitvities, but I am concerned about turning NCL in to a "kids cruise line"...in my opinion, there are often already too many kids and the Spongebob mentality and anticts can only make their behavior worse, not to mention the encouragement to some of the adults!!

wow, guess I am the only one looking forward to it. Guess they are trying to attract a younger audience too?

I'll enjoy it - my son definitely will.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to give that impression. I find Spongebob incredibly grating, but I'm good with Nickelodeon in general, and I'm definitely looking forward to my daughter having some 'extra special' activities. :) I just hope there isn't some sort of 'Slime your parents' party, because I know I wouldn't be able to say 'no'! :p

I agree with Big Steve, though. I think that besides the occasional poolside event (definitely no less unappealing to me than the hairy legs contest), most of this is going to occur away from the 'general public' on the ship. Like I said, though, we're really going to have to wait and see to know anything for sure.

Well we are booked on the Jewel for May 1st and my 10 year old twins girls will be THRILLED:D:D:D

We did Disney 3 years ago and it was just fine;)

I'm thinking this is competition with Disney. Not quite as kid-oriented as Disney, but I'm sure it will be fun for the little ones.
