Rum Runners?? do they work on RCL

Recommended Posts

Wow...26 posts and nobody has posted anything about how it's against the rules to smuggle, morally wrong, ethically wrong, cruise prices are going to go up if you use them, RCCL's bottom line will be hurt if you use them and blah blah blah.

Go ahead you guys...I just donned my flame retardant suit.

Man, you know it is coming. I will be the first. I do understand buying booze is expensive and if I remember right RCI does not have a bar set up plan like some ships. IF they do, I think everyone should go that route, if they don't smggling to drink in your cabin is up to you, if smuggling to drink in the public areas is your plan, I think you are cheating the cruise line and eventually we who do not will pay for it with higher prices. I am not saying this cause I am holier than thou because I am not. I am simply looking at the bottom line.

So let me get straight, if I go on a cruise and don't smuggle OR buy any drinks while on board I will be hurting the bottom line of XYZ cruise line and the price of the cruise to go up. That is some crazy logic. I guess I need to go to a friends of Bill W meeting to see if the Cruise line charges the non drinkers S&S card to cover the cost of the drinks they as a group (using your logic) have stiffed the cruise line out of. I wonder how many drinks a day it takes to keep the cruise lines out of bankruptcy. I sure hope a few smuggled drinks will not ruin the whole cruise industry.

  • 3 weeks later...
I flew to L.A. with rumrunners in my checked bag and my carry on bag. TSA in Atlanta didn't find them and neither did Mariner's scanners. Also brought a little back in carry on bag and they again went through TSA in L.A no problem. Love rumrunners!!

I'm not against sneaking alcohol onto a cruise ship with current drink prices. However, unlike bringing booze aboard a cruise ship, smuggling liquids through a TSA check point is a federal crime. So be carefull out there. Put them in your checked luggage.

The smuggling of booze is best summed up by the fact that the people who do smuggle are just TOO DAMN CHEAP!You can justify it all you want but that is the bottom line!

Hmmm. I dispute this since our bar bill at the end of trip (with 2 bottles taken on every cruise) is usually high anyways (and we have concierge access too). It's not about being cheap - it more of a convenience factor. We just enjoy a few drinks on the balcony or while getting ready for dinner.

So please refrain from making judgements, we will all be better off enjoying our vacations as we each please.

Too damn cheap? That's funny. Just 'cuz I want a snip in my cabin, etc. doesn't mean I don't spend money in the bars, specialty restaurants, spa, shops on board, shore excursions and casino. I'll likely be glad to trade my sea pass bill for yours! LOL

ours were cought last year, they took them right out my suitcase and left me a letter inside, we didn't get them bak at the end of the cruise either. Tried it again this year and all was fine. You could also put the small ones in your cargo pocket and go through the scanner just fine.

TSA didn't care whether you had alcohol in your CHECKED luggage.
Same here. I've been reading hundreds of posts about RumRunners over the last three years and this is very first I've ever heard of .

I'd love to hear the details.

I've heard two stories of Rum Runners being caught (both on these boards); unless, of course, you happen to be the same person telling the same story! The other person said he'd STACKED TWO Rum Runners on top of one another, and he thought that led to being caught.

Personally, I've never had trouble with plastic bottles. I maintain that the key to success is moderation. Keep it small so they say, "Why bother with whatever that small thing might be?" Yes, they COULD investigate, but they probably won't.

I wish I had known about these rumrunners 3 years ago on a spring break cruise, out of the group of 10 of us we employed the following methods... all of which worked.... none of which I would recommend!

1- Taping bottles under pant legs (A guy did this and ripped off a lot of leg hair for that 12 oz of cheap vodka)

2- Stuffing airplane bottles in bras (each girl had 6)

3- taping a bag of wine (from the box) to stomach and pretending to be pregnant:eek:

4- bringing on a case of water in which 8 of the bottles in the middle were rum

5- shampoo bottles

6- mouth wash bottles

7- taping the bottles under bulky shirts and sweatshirts

8- boxes of wine in bags

We were poor college students that paid for the cruise by selling plasma, we couldn't afford alcohol on the ship... with that said, my bar tab was still over $100 and I had to smuggle some of the alcohol off- talk about embarassing.

I think I'll try these rumrunners next :) All in moderation

They sure do if you bring them from outside the security check point!!!!!

My bad.... I see that you said Checked luggage in which you are 100 percent correct unless of course they are of a hazardous nature. (ie gasoline, paint etc.)

Trying to bring liquids through a TSA check point will normally result in just having to discard them. However, if it appears to the TSA that you attempted to conceal them for the purpose of getting them aboard the aircraft, then you will most likely end up being detained and even arrested. This will cost you much more than just paying the way over inflated drink prices aboard your ship.........that is is you get out of jail early enough to even make your cruise.

I like to pack them next to my toiletries bag, so the cap gets lost among all the other bottles on the exray. I think if you put them in your shoes, it may raise a flag as to why your shoes had a screw cap! I also put them in a one gallon bag, just for extra worry free travel, but have never had a problem.

I've never smuggled alcohol on board a cruise but I'm not opposed to it. I view it like this. Back when I was in university, we all did a little pre-drinking before going out. That didn't stop me from ranking up huge bar bills when I did go out. It's about convenience, not being cheap.

I booked an independent shore trip in January and saved $80 on RCCL's Cairo trip price of $160.

I feel so terribly suilty that I have hurt the cruise line's profit margin.

They worked for me last April. Had them packed in checked baggage and one in the pocket of my pants. Funniest thing was I also walked on with 2 bottles of gin in a clear plastic bag. I was going to hand these in and collect them at the end of the cruise but didn't find who to give them to.

We just filled the rum runners with rum, stuck them in the suitcases and checked the bags. No problems.

Had rum and coke any time of the day, nice to have in the evening while getting ready for dinner. Our bar tab only had 3 things on it. The cosmo and the 2 evening shots at dinner that I had. I am not a cheap drinker.

DH was happy as can be. So was our friend who did the same thing.
