tmt218 Posted January 20, 2011 #26 Share Posted January 20, 2011 Just a little FYI....when I was looking for a park and cruise package most of the hotels offer the transportation to the port only and don't offer a return shuttle to pick up your car. Does anyone know how much the shuttles to return are? We are a family of 3. Trying to figure out what is the best route for us. So far the Jax Plaza Hotel is the cheapest but only a one way plus having to pay additional person. The HIE near port is all inclusive @ 154 and the Fairfield is 120 all inclusive. I am wondering if staying outside Jacksonville and driving in and parking at the port would be cheaper. Is parking still $15 a day? Any help or suggestions from my CC experts? Is it me or is this the worst port for park and cruise packages?
mara93 Posted January 20, 2011 #27 Share Posted January 20, 2011 We're heading down in April & have found that BW & Hojo offer round trip transportation & parking. For a 5 day cruise, it's $75 to park @ the port so if you can get a hotel for $50 on Priceline, I'd say you're ahead by a couple of bucks... if that. The Jacksonville Plaza "sail and save" package includes roundtrip shuttle between the hotel and the port. You do have to pay $10 for a third person but that is roundtrip as well. I have not found Jacksonville to be the worst port for park and cruise packages. Depending on the length of your cruise (and therefore the cost to park at the port), you may find a hotel (via hotwire, priceline, hotel points, etc) that would make staying there and parking at the port to be less expense than a park and cruise package. Having your car at the port for a fast getaway once you debark the ship rather than the time involved to get on a shuttle, return to the hotel, and load up your car is a factor to consider as well. tmt218 Posted January 20, 2011 #32 Share Posted January 20, 2011 I called them too and they were very helpful. I can't get over how cheap it is. I think we are going to book it. Thanks for all the help.
SteelerCruiser Posted January 21, 2011 Author #33 Share Posted January 21, 2011 We actually drove down the night b-4 our cruise and we had considered booking before we drove down. Wanted to use the park and cruise pkg but would not be able to gurantee our ****tle time till check in. We would not be arriving til late so check in would be late as well. When we got into town and I asked what shuttles were avaliable the time we wanted was filled up so we decided to just stay at the hotel and then park at the port. The rate was a little cheaper and we had the convenience of having our car once off the ship. As far as the hoyel itself it was fine for a short stay. If heading south on I-95 it is the exit b-4 the port exit. Still a 9 or 10 mile ride though. There are a # of hotels around the area there as well as a huge shopping center with a Wal-Mart for any last minute necessities.
KroozFoolz Posted January 21, 2011 #34 Share Posted January 21, 2011 Thanks for reporting back! We plan to arrive in Jacksonville by 4 pm or so - hopefully, that will be soon enough to get a good shuttle time.
Nickabit Posted January 21, 2011 #35 Share Posted January 21, 2011 I did some looking around to get park and cruise packages. Below is what I found. If someone finds a better deal, please let me know. Has anyone stayed in the Jacksonville Plaza? It's the cheapest I could find, but is the neighborhood safe to leave your car for a week? We actually decided to stay the night but decided to park at the port....nice to get off and not have to waiy for the shuttle. But unless the Hotel has another Parking lot for the "cruise and stay" pkg The parking lot we seen was pretty well lit. Weather or not I would want to leave my car there for a week I am not sure. It would probaly be ok.

mara93 Posted January 23, 2011 #40 Share Posted January 23, 2011 Jacksonville Plaza - I just called. They have their own shuttle, a van. Scheduled times to leave for the port are - 11, 12 & 1. First come, first served basis. For pickup - They are already there, their first run is at 9am. Best Western - $99.99 plus tax - $112.99 Drop off shuttle starts at 7am (Maybe this one runs to the airport, as well) Pickup Shuttle starts at 10:30 & runs every 45 minutes . For those with kids, children 2 & under ride free to the port, no additional charges with either hotel.

I just realized that you're sailing on 3/28/11 aboard Fascination as am I so I guess I shouldn't wait for your details upon your return! :p As such I'm going to book the JaxPlaza too. Captain Carnival Posted January 27, 2011 #46 Share Posted January 27, 2011 As such I'm going to book the JaxPlaza too. On second thought I'm going to look around a bit more as I've been reading some horrible reviews of jaxplaza (trip advisor in particular) that talk about BUGS!!! At this stage of the game I think that I'd rather pay a few extra bucks for a cleaner hotel and park at the port.
mara93 Posted January 27, 2011 #47 Share Posted January 27, 2011 ShotoJuku, I read the reviews on TA, too. If you look at the note added, it seems the guests left food out, attracting bugs.

SteelerCruiser Posted January 28, 2011 Author #49 Share Posted January 28, 2011 Sound like quite a number of bugs.....all over their legs and bed. ...and thank goodness did not see any of this type of activity. I mean it is not the most attractive looking room or hotel but we did not see any Bug activity. Not to say it couldn't happen but I know we throughly checked the room for critters inccluding pulling the sheets back and the mattress pad as well. Not a bad place to crash for 1 night but would not want to stay an extended period of time there.
wolfe54 Posted January 28, 2011 #50 Share Posted January 28, 2011 Regarding the post on "bugs", I usually check bedbugregistry.com before booking any hotel. Jacksonville Plaza Hotel & Suites does have a case of this reported but the one listed is from 2008. If going there I would def. check the room before bringing my belongings in. Please don't flame me or anything, I'm just adding to the info that was put on here. Just a little FYI. Makes me itch just thinking about it ;).
