Back from the Jewel 1/9/05 - Some Comments

Recommended Posts

I am not on her until April. I don't care if it turns out to be the worst cruise or the best cruise I have ever been on. I need to get on this ship, and now! Like several others, counting the Fridays until then...

I hear ya! I have 2 weeks from Friday, and I can't wait to get out of this cold and snow! Almost time to start packing! I've been gathering things that I normally take--water cameras, ect and washing up my summer clothes and ironing them. Will be sure to let you know what to expect once I get back. I am sure it will be wonderful!

Hi, guys! Everyone have a wonderful cruise. I don't know if Karen was the Concierge, but she was most definitely the Cruise Director. She was okay. I personnaly liked Dotty Kalusa from Holland America better on the Zuiderdam last spring, but to each his own.

In answer to someone's question, I don't see in the daily Compass that Portofinos or Chops was ever open for lunch and I don't recall walking by there at lunchtime so I won't say definitely not, but I'd check once on board.

Moving over to the Cunard board because the next cruise (which, unfortunately, probably won't be until next year) I want to be on the QMII.

Bon voyage! I'll be checking in here though, once in awhile too.

We just got back from the 1/15 sailing on the Jewel of the Seas (actually didn't get back until yesterday as we were stranded in FL due to the snowstorm in NY for two days) - anyway - booked a Grand Suite, cabin 1536 on deck 10. To our pleasant suprise, it came with Concierge lounge key where there was continental breakfast in the mornings (I was told - lol - never made it to breakfast), and happy hour drinks and hors deuvres every evening, and complementary expresso and cappiccino. Brett was on duty each night to make us cocktails. Very nice perk for the suites and Diamond members IMO.

Trixiee: I see you had cabin #9078. I can see that the balcony for that cabin is really large. But did you experience any negatives from being so close to the library and elevators? Were there any noise issues from the lifts and foot traffic?

No noise from the elevators or foot traffic. However, we did hear the music from the Centrum, if we had the TV off... and sat quietly and listened. But certainly not enough to bother us. The music is done by 11:00 p.m.... We enjoyed the larger balcony, and ease and convenience of getting to our room.

I would take that room again, if I had the opportunity!

Have FUN!!

from the 01/15/05 cruise all 6 of us south jersyites made it thru another great criuse on the jewel. on entering the ship as a diamond member was about 10 min. but had to wait till 1pm for our rooms.no biggie went eatin and drinkin. thru out the ship she was great from front to back and side to side. the shows were perty good few musicals so spent some time at the pit stop (milo) . then onto the explorer lounge and then into the safari lounge where one nite we played the quest wata game i think we were 3rd only because we had the #3. the pool area well i really belive the ship need another pool for the amount of passengers it carried,as for the seargent of the guard pool tendent well in the morning she would tell you no saving seats ! ok no problem !? but by mid morn when 10000000 people were at the pool no mention of saving seats no way to tell anyway.real deal is when early risers go to the pool you have a 1/2hr of not being in the seat seen this first hand the seargent will swoop down and fold all belongings up and put away till you cliam them.was like 1hr the seats that were swooped on and things folded and stored .but as i say by mid morn no problem.just doin their job.as for the pool games was lotta activity buddy mine won the best bootie! and the next time we enterd the belly flop contest we were not the biggest but put the best presentation on i won and the skinny guy was 2nd. food abord the ship was good .tides dining room was great service how many names can you give prime rib ,lamb, steak, lobster, chicken. not had a bad meal since i left the army.up top at the disco we danced a few nites there one nite was the village people lotta fun but other nites like a ghost town.on the pool deck after hours was the pool party wata shindig had great time this was the time for all the bar tenders and servers to shine nite out for them great time. shore excursions well went to the beach in antigua was like huckster city i sold a pair of my shoes to one of those ladys she was happy. other than that we did not get off after that well been to all the islands from here to panama and back a couple times. after that was mostly lounge and eat not much goin on bingo last horse race. nassau well 6 ships in a tiny port confusion was there from 1pm till 430pm . our room was great haaaaaa when you get on elevator (front) it had a snorkel on it floor 3 was all way up front under the stage floor so if you wanted a nap in mid afternoon ferget it i mean ferget it room 3509 inside and on rough seas well sounded like the ocean in the room imagine how the crew feels. getting off the ship haaaa joke make big deal about the color tags. well was not a soul lookin for color only to herd you off and dont listen to them when they say go to the top to wait nononono hang by the tides dining room upper level. i think 30000 people had beige tags haaaaaaaaaaaaa. we also do the cab thing to the airport $11.00 not bad. well other than some spell check i think yall will get the idiea.we had a great time and will do again ,in april due to ride carnival glory we will be with son and his wife so have to be good !!!! p/s the casino was good my buddies played there often no big payouts only the big bingo winner 1 person 5g's......

Our cabin was number 9078 a D1 Category, right at the beginning of the hump, and we had the largest balcony available in that category. It had 2 lounge chairs, 2 regular chairs and a little cocktail table. It was on deck 9.

Trixee -- just wondering what you thought of the cabin (we are booked in 9078 on the Brilliance). Was it really windy given that you are facing forward? Did you mind that you couldn't see backward? Any observations appreciated!

Hi Jules,
We did not regret not being able to look toward the back of the ship, and I found that it was not too windy out there at all. Because the balcony is so deep, you could easily get in out of the wind.
Enjoy your cruise!
