Is Westerdam going into dry dock

Heard that the Zuiderdam and Westerdam are due for re-furbishing. Does anyone know when these two ships will be going into dry dock?

Not certain of the exact dates but Westerdam is due for a dry dock at the beginning of April and the Zuiderdam near the end of April.

The Westerdam ends one cruise on Apr 4, and begins its T-A on Apr 14, so the dry-dock must be 4/5 to 4/13.

Zuiderdam -- strange -- maybe it is in March -- I was looking at HAL's site and it showed the end of April.

True. HAL's color-coded calendar is a bit imprecise at times. I'm not sure how often it is updated, either.

 

If you search for cruises on HAL's site, the Zuiderdam is offering sailings throughout April. On April 10, there is a 10-day. On April 20, a 14-day or 18-day option (which will take it into May), so all of April has scheduled sailings.

 

In March, only the March 31 10-day is currently listed.

 

I often 'check' the scheduled sailings to look for the gaps to determine dry dock dates (even though DH and I have the spreadsheet to create the Daily Fleet Reports). I'm sure that it's possible that schedules could change from the year plus out in which the spreadsheet file was created.

Do these ships usually get dry-docked once a year?

Every 18-24 months for below the waterline inspection and repair. Required by maritime regulations.

Nope, been there, done that!:cool:

Zuiderdam just spent 8 days in dry-dock in Freeport, Bahamas (24-30 March 2010) where she gained her second alternative restaurant, "Canaletto". In addition, routine "dry-dock maintenance" was performed including all hardwood floors being refinished and additional artwork added to her passageways.

 

Prior to that, Zuiderdam was in dry-dock in April 2008 at Fincantieri's in Palermo, Sicily for her SOE part 2 enhancements. There, a new block of thirty-four prefabricated cabins was lowered into place and installed on her stern increasing her passenger capacity from 1,848 to 1,916 and her gross registered tonnage from 81,769 to 82,305. Her existing Internet Center was moved to the starboard side of the Crow's Nest becoming part of her new Explorations Café. Her Pinnacle Grill restaurant was expanded to 130 seats and also on Deck 2 (LP) starboard side, a new Pinnacle and Wine Bar was added in place of her original Windstar Café (The Windstar Café Coffee Bar was moved to Deck 10 forward to become part of the Explorations Café). The part of Zuiderdam's Ocean Bar that was originally hidden from view behind walkway panels was "opened up".

A dedicated high-end 36-seat (six rows of six theater-style reclining leather seats with small tables in between) home theater called the "Screening Room" was added in place of where the Internet Center used to be. Her shopping arcade on Deck 3 was expanded and updated, including the addition of a high-end jewelry shop called “Merabella” as well as a viewing room in front of the existing shops. Also there on Deck 3 in place of the original library, a new Digital Workshop was installed.

Westerdam also just recently (last month 04 – 13 Apr 10) entered dry-dock in Freeport where she gained her "Canaleto" and routine maintenance was performed, among other things, painting inside and out, carpeting and furniture replaced, sprinkler system tested, etc.

Prior to that, she was in dry-dock from 17-30 April 2007, also at Palermo, Sicily, Italy for her SOE part 2 upgrades.
