Thanks for the pic's. We will be on her next month in suite 8508. Noticed that another thread had mentioned a bad smell when they were on their balcony in a junior suite on deck 8. Hopefully that will be resolved.

Love the photos. How was your holiday? We are in 8518 but I'm thinking of trying to swap to the other side so we are closer to our friends who are in 8020. Are all the GS pretty similar? We are have 2 adults and 2 kids so I'm hoping it will have plenty of room for us. How were the perks? Was there many on Rhapsody? Any tips or advice for us? We are pretty much first time cruisers, don't think you could count my cruise 18 odd years ago before I got married.

Thanks

Leah

We were in 8518 on the recent 16 day cruise Sydney to Honolulu. It was fantastic. Best steward we have ever had in years of cruising. His name is Ronnie. Stacks of room, great balcony to relax on, more wardrobe space than you could ever use. Bedhead faces to the front if that makes sense.

It is very handy to the windjammer cafe. We did not hear any noises except for some furniture being shifted above on some mornings. No problems whatsoever with the suite. I did lose a pair of swimming trunks somewhere in the room so if you find them ..... Only joking. Have a great cruise.

Just further. The suite looked exactly the same as 8512 posted earlier so I would think they are all the same for decor.

As for perks. You get priority seating at the shows which we never used. Some canapes and fruit and chokkies arrived some days. No concierge on board. Just enjoying the size of the suite was enough as we have been in some very ordinary cabins over the years. It will be hard to go back.

Thanks Assie Bruce. We got the GS for the extra room as well and any perks would be a bonus. I was thinking the priority tender tickets might come in handy when we go to an island. I was also thinking we would probably have breakfast in the cabin (or balcony) most mornings. None of us are real quick to get going in the morning so a casual breakfast would probably suit us as well as giving us some family time without anyone else around. Does the corner lounge make up into a sofa bed? Looks nice and comfy anyway.

Cheers

Yes. You do get priority tender tickets. Very handy. I believe the corner lounge does make up into a third bed but we were only two so could not swear to it.

The bathroom is excellent. Two basins. Full bath and shower. Lots of room.

The bathroom was the clincher for us. With two girls (one pre-teen who is a princess) plus me we thought the bigger bathroom would be more than handy. It's all very exciting.

Hi and thanks for the wonderful photo's. I'm booked on Legend, 5 night Asia in Jan 2011 in a Grand suite ALL BY MYSELF...WHOOO HOOO.....

I can't wait to have all that room to myself. Can you tell me if you had much noise from above. I was recently on Carnival Freedom doing a B2B and the first week at 6:00am every morning for 6 days someone was constantly jumping and banging then moving chairs on balcony. The next week no noise. I have noticed all the GS on Rhapsoy and Legend are under public areas and am a bit concerned about the noise level from above. Thanks again for the photos...also did you happen to venture into the casino? I was last on Rhapsody in Dec 2009 and it was very small and not enticing enough for me to spend any time or money there. Since she is sailing out of Aust I thought it would be a good one for mum, however not if the Casino isn't up to par LOL. :)

Hi Leah,

We were in 8518 on the cruise before Bruce. It was a fantastic room, I also had 2 adults & 2 children (ages 11 &14). A big tip...ask for a rollaway as soon as you get onboard (they only have a limited no. of them). Ronnie the cabin steward was so great he would set the bed up for us when we were at dinner and then put it away in the morning. My son slept on the sofa bed which had plenty of room for a 14 yr old and my daughter slept on the rollaway which was really really comfy. I'm so jealous its been nearly a month since we stepped off the ship and I am still pining to be back on there. Plenty of storage space, the bathroom is gorgeous, we also got little chocolates on our pillow every night, champagne delivered on first day, fruit bowl and priority tendering is an absolute bonus. We were lucky enough to get an upgrade to this suite the day before boarding now I think it will be too hard to book anything less. Oh and you will also get invited to the captains cocktail party in the Library, everything was just about perfect. The only thing which didn't work so well was the fridge, not very cold at all, just ask for an ice bucket. If you have any questions I will be happy to answer. Donna

Thanks Donna, sounds wonderful. The girls will be 11 and 8 (she turns 8 on the cruise, lucky thing) so wondering if the sofa bed will be big enough for both of them. They are used to sharing a double bed, they seem to do it every weekend on a friday or saturday night. Does the rollaway bed stay in the cabin during the day? If so, where do they put it? I still have ages to wait but am really looking forward to it. I love reading everyones cruise experiences, it certainly seems like a great holiday.

Thanks again.

Leah

Thank you for the web link to this. Unfortunately no photos of the room I am staying in, but great for comparison, I will be sure to post photos of our room for the site.

Great Photos A&G of your suite, I hope you guys had a great time. Looks like a room I could see myself staying in soon, lol! :D

I am glad people are enjoying the photos. When I book a room on a ship I go searching for photos and not often I find photos of the specific cabin, so I thought I would start in the hope it helps folk with their room selection.

We enjoyed the priority theatre seating and tender tickets. Most of the other perks have been mentioned above. For Diamond members and Plus there is a special breakfast room which is fantastic. Don't forget to ask for a cappacino there.

Ronnie was our room attendant as well. He went about his job quietly and efficiently and cleaned up mess from a couple of room parties.

Breakfast on the balcony is the best with white tablecloth and everything, just like in all those cruise advertisements.

Just a little noise from the pool deck above. First thing in the morning we would hear the pool towels being rolled out and an occassional heavy footed walker but at night with the balcony door opened the music from the pool deck was lovely:)

Donna, we looked for you at the CC party but there was a mix up with invitations and not many people turned up.

Hi Alan,

Room parties?????? Why weren't we invited......we were practically neighbours!!! I have to say our room became the teenage party room one night we walked in and there were about 20 teenagers in there having a party of their own....wrapping themselves in bedsheets so they could go to the toga party!!! Re the CC party...I never received an invite ....did you? Donna

Hi Donna

If you were sent an invitation it was probably sent to your old room. As I mentioned, not many people actually received an invitation and it was only by word of mouth that a few turned up to the party.

I knew you were moved to a GS and thought you must have been around us somewhere but save knocking on every door I just thought we would bump into you sonner or later.

Hi Leah,

The sofa bed should be big enough for both of them. The rollaway did stay in the cabin it was on wheels so when it was closed up it just sat near the TV cabinet...still plenty of room.See how they go. Another tip is to take a few lanyards with you to put your seapass cards on, having them around your neck saves carrying them around and one less thing to buy onboard. Reception can punch a hole in the card for you. I also took onboard a case of coke mini cans to have in our room. They didn't get confiscated! I took a hair straightener although it did the trick it wasn't anywhere near as hot. The room is in a fantastic position just up one flight of stairs and your at the Windjamer/pool area....I'll keep thinking of little tips for you!

Thanks Donna,

I had already read about the lanyards and thought they would be good for the kids. I like a can of coke in the afternoons and was wondering whether I could take some on board for our room. Did you get the kids soda packages? I'm not sure about it. The girls only drink soft drink at night occasionally, not every night, and they normally drink lemonade which is free. I on the other hand like my coke zero. Is the soft drink post mix or cans? if it is post mix I think I would rather buy a can when I want one. the location looks really good, close to the windjammer and the pool and the kids club. Did you eat at the wj or mdr most nights. Not sure how our fussy 8year old will go at the mdr every night. Very excited.

Thanks again,

Leah

Hi Leah,

I had no problem taking cans of coke onboard (via an esky on wheels) so I wasn't trying to hide it at all. When it reached the cabin it had been searched for alcohol I guess. I didn't buy the soda package for the simple reason that my son would have definately overdosed on coke. Although he worked out half way through the cruise that the other teenagers who had a soda card could get him one anyway!!! It is post mix but some of the bar tenders were giving them cans of coke.Be warned the lemonade is like our lemon cordial but really strong (same as their OJ) we had to water both down. An idea is to buy one soda card for the girls to share. You would definately get your monies worth this way. Its not only coke they were getting shirley temples etc..

We ate at the MDR every night as we were on a table of 8 and were put with really fun people....be warned its tradition to have shots after dinner each night (you could keep the shot glasses..I came home with a set of each colour..lots of fun). My 11 yr old daughter ate with us every night (but she's not fussy will eat anything) but my son ate here on formal nights (had the same steak each night) and other nights the teens would eat at the Windjammer together (probably more to choose from for your daughters). If your daughters really enjoy the kids club you could feed them early in WJ and then they can go to night session of kids club and you could eat late seating (we also had the 8.30pm seating which was great...thought 6.30pm was too early for us since we would order room service each afternoon to have on our balcony..choc dipped strawberries, nachos, cheese platter ....be warned all you do is eat its fantastic). Also put in a request to be seated with people your own age group on a large table (if you like to mix).....dining plays a big part of the cruise, level 4 is best in the middle section near the stairs...best view for when waiters do their singing/performance.

I was just watching Rhapsody on Getaway tonight...oh I need to book another one real soon!!! I know how excited you must be!!!

Thanks Donna,

We are booked for 2011, 3 November from Sydney. We are going with friends as a joint 40th birthday, plus a splurge for me finishing uni this year (I'm almost a history teacher). So far three families are booked with another two likely to do the same, 14 kids all up and 8 adults. There could be more, you never know. I kind of agree with the soda package. You would swear one of daughters was weaned on coke the way she guzzles it if given the chance. Lemon cordial would be perfect, it is what we drink most in summer. I suppose I will see what the other families are doing, I don't want the girls to be the only kids in the group without a soda card.

Great tip about feeding the kids early in the wj and then going to the mdr later. With such a big group that could work really well some night and we could get to relax and party, especially the night we make our birthday night. The shots sound like fun, as does the cocktail of the day and the nibblies on the balcony. I can see some cabin parties happening lol.

Yes, we are very excited, first big holiday since I started uni 5 long years ago.

Thanks again.

Leah

Thank you for posting the photos. Does the curtain in the GS extend across the suite to divide the bed from the sofabed area? (I have two young kids with early bedtimes.) Also, how was the motion? We've only stayed in true mid-ship cabins, and this looks like it is on the Forward side.
