**Golden Princess May 14, 2011 - Vancouver To Seattle**

Hey you all!

My wife and signed up this week for this cruise, just because of the Vancover depart!

This will be our 5th Alaskan cruise on Princess, a southbound in 2000, and round trips out of Seattle in 2005, 2006, and 2009. We really enjoy it up there since it is the exact opposite of where we live in west Texas.

I promise to make no comments about the Cowboys!

Welcome!!!! Departing from Vancouver is the reason Margie and I are on this ship too.

Are you planning a pre-cruise? We'll be in Seattle for 2 nights before we take the train to Vancouver on the morning of the cruise.

I hope you stop by often to chat :D

Just noticed you are in Lubbock. I have been there a few times and my son's wedding was there last year (actually Ransom Canyon). My DIL is from Lubbock. :D

Coming in one night early and stay at the Westin Bayshore. I believe it is near the ship's dock. You got to come to beautiful Lubbock? I was born here so what can I say! Ransom Canyon is a nice housing development for Lubbock. We nearly moved out there 4 years ago but bought a rural property on the west side of town.

That will be such a scenic rail trip to Vancouver. Such a prelude to the cruise!

Hi, Maple... Glad you can join us. I was born in Sweetwater... Not too far from Lubbock!

Linda.. Have you and Margie booked a Seattle hotel yet or still looking for prices to drop in the New Year?

Mary

We have a reservation at the Renaissance. Still checking the Westin and Grand Hyatt for AAA special rates. So far the only reduced rates offered are prepay - and the rates aren't that great......

Margie and I have been discussing the new level of airport security. I haven't been subjected to the body scanner yet and I definitely don't want a pat down (described as groping now).

Since I'm flying for Thanksgiving and Christmas - stay tuned!

Well, I watched Sarah Palin's Alaska. Parts of it were good but I hope they don't start forcusing on her too much. Who cares about the TV studio in her home....but fishing next to bears was great.

The scenery was awesome of course!

I am thinking of booking this cruise and just wanted to say hello! This will be the first Alaska cruise for me, my husband has been before. I also would love to see Seattle and Vancouver pre/post cruise. Hopefully there will be some cool weather in May as it will already be hot in Florida.

Well aren't we a quiet bunch lately?????? Everyone must be busy getting ready for Thanksgiving.....

Exactly... too much to do at work before taking a much needed break next week.

I did watch Sarah Palin's Alaska on Sunday. Loved seeing the scenery. Makes me glad we'll all be there in May. :D I can't believe how quickly time is flying.

Linda... Are you ready for that full body scan?

Welcome to all newcomers. Glad you can join us... or that you're at least thinking about it.

No actually and I'm hoping I go through security as normal - since I have never been singled out yet.....

We were singled out once about a year ago. Made last minute reservations for a flight into Toronto. TA said we were selected because of the last minute reservation and it was an "international" destination.

We have been singled out 3 times for extensive questioning and/or full pat down or wanding + pat/grope... Once due to Ed's working a week in the garden with fertilizers and such leaving residue on his shoes!! I figure 2-3 minutes of "cheap" thrills is still better than driving. Flying just seems faster and safer. Too many texters on the road anymore...

I think I'll go for the full body scan. Not much of a chance someone will want to keep an image of this middle-aged body! :D

A grassroots group of fliers who say they are fed up with airport “feel ups” and who call TSA X-ray machines “porno scanners” are cooking up a Thanksgiving Eve revolt that, they vow, will turn the nation’s heaviest travel day into “holy hell.”

Fueled by two new websites — OptOutDay.com and WeWontFly.com — as well as by several awkward, security-point frisking videos that recently went viral, movement members are vowing to unleash a surreal spate of Nov. 24 disruptions just as millions of Americans fly off for annual family feasts.

Glad we're not flying over Thanksgiving! It will be interesting to see what, if anything, happens.

Mary, I'm not flying for Thanksgiving and I wouldn't participate in an opt-out on that particular occasion because I don't think it's fair to all others who are trying to get home to families.

That said, I HAVE written Princess and Continental Airlines to let them know I will NOT be flying as long as the only two choices are full body scan and molestation (which are the only two choices at IAH from what I am told). If the cruise lines and the airlines can't put enough pressure on Congress to do away with this ridiculous overreaction, then they will suffer the consequences.

Amtrak takes three days from Houston to Seattle, which seems pretty pointless, PLUS it costs $265 each way plus a sleeper arrangement, should you want one. If those who say don't fly if you don't want to do what everyone else is doing, it would be nice if we in the US had high-speed trains like other countries. If the greenies would quit complaing about oil and gas exploration and work on something positive like an integrated, coast-to-coast transportation system that actually works and is feasible, we would all be better off!

OK, I'll quit with my rant for the day. Can anyone tell I am upset about all this?

Yes, an Opt Out has been organized and I'm hoping that I make it out of TPA without too much delay. I'm already planning to go earlier than normal just to be safe. Normally I look forward to traveling to see family but this is adding a lot of unneccessary stress!

Margie, I am so with you on this. If only we had another option to get to SEA

I hope you get a response from Continental and Princess. It will be interesting to see what they say.....
