RCL Booze Policy

Recommended Posts

The RCL booze policy makes no sense. The corporation RCL owns at least 50% of Celebrity, Pullmantur, Azamara, Croisiers de France, and TUI cruise lines.

Celebrity allows two bottles of wine to be brought on board and will set up a stateroom bar (at a fee)

Pullmantur in all-inclusive

Azamara allows two bottles of wine to be brought on board

CDF is all-inclusive

TUI includes beer and wine.

Please give me an argument that justifies the RCL position allowing no wine to be brought on board or any bottles bought on board.

You're preaching to the crowd. You should ask RCCL to give you an argument as to why they have this policy.

Some say it's because of one dope who got drunk and fell overboard a few years ago (I don't believe that for a second though, because it happens on other cruise lines too), and others will say that RCCL is less expensive than their other lines so they have to make up the revenue by charging you for drinks. It IS a fact that the ships have drink quotas. They discussed it on an MSNBC show that highlighted an NCL ship and how it makes money. Their #1 goal is to sail at 104% capacity and sell, sell, sell while onboard.

So believe me you're not gonna get arguments on this board. Most of us would like to bring a freakin' bottle of wine onboard, or buy a bottle of something in the gift shop and have it delivered to the cabin.

I agree. You need to ask RCI why this is their policy.

You will probably get different reasons but the main thing is that you are sailing on their ships with their rules.

If you don't like their booze policy sail a different line.:)

I agree that a bottle or two of wine or champagne should be allowed.

Until RCCL changes its policy, however, those are the conditions.

What hurts it for everyone are those who attempt to smuggle large quantities onboard, going to ridiculous lengths to avoid detection. Those abusers have hurt it for eveyone!

I think ANY alcohol should be allowed....a bottle of wine is 4 lousy drinks....most folks won't sit in their rooms drinking anyway....they will want to be out and about....drinking in a bar is MUCH for fun and sociable than sitting in your cabin....however, if you want to bring something, you should be allowed...just like in ANY hotel!

1. check the price on those cruise lines

2. if you don't like the policy find a different cruise line.

All this complaining about liquor in general is not only old and tiring it is mute... making these threads over and over again makes no sense... Try digging up and old thread and revive it... You are entitled to your opinion but do we have to create a new thread every time someone new wants to complain about this topic...

I did as suggested and sent an e-mail

"Issue: Please explain your policy re bringing wine on board. The other cruise lines that are a part of RCL allow two bottles or provide it.

This was the reply

Thank you for your email.

We sincerely regret to learn of your disappointment in regard to our alcohol policy. Please note that our policies and procedures are based largely on customer feedback, much of which is collected from guest satisfaction cards supplied within the staterooms onboard. As Royal Caribbean International focuses on families who cruise together, many of our guests expressed concern regarding the control of alcoholic beverages. To this end, our cruise line is able to best monitor and avoid potentially harmful situations by being the sole provider and thus regulating the consumption of alcohol. We apologize for any disappointment this response may cause.

If guests receive a Royal Selections Gift (bottle) in their stateroom and they wish to take the bottle to the dining room, then a corkage fee of $12.00 per bottle will apply. There is no corkage fee if the guests consume the bottle in their stateroom, as long as it was purchased through Royal Selections.

thank you for choosing Royal Caribbean International.

Sincerely,

HAH! Yeah, right. Every other mass-cruise line is family friendly and then let you bring a freakin' bottle of wine onboard. They're certainly not gonna say, "Thank you for writing. We don't allow it because we'd prefer you pay $8/glass for wine."

That's interesting; there's another thread on this, perhaps it would also be worth posting this on that thread as well?

because RCCL has really really cheep cruses. they need to make up the money somewhere. mass market, is mass market.

not quite sure why people don't seem to get that it is a bottom line issue.

that said, I would love a pre paid bar set up option in our rooms. as well as a drinks pkgs.

We should be allowed to bring one bottle per person. What's the big deal?

It's nice to enjoy your balcony during sail away without having to go buy a drink and bring it back to your room

Since we attend the muster drill we grab a drink and head back to our cabin for sail away after the drill. We enjoy our drinks on our balcony all of the time. Room service is happy to bring them or we just pick one up on our way past the numerous bars onboard.:)
