GWTW428 Posted August 19, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 19, 2010 Is there insurance that covers your travel expense if you miss the boat while at a port of call? On a past cruise we actually left a few people in Athens! Actually watched them run to get the ship but it had already started to pull away from dock! Thanks
6rugrats Posted August 19, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 19, 2010 Read the policy carefully and see if there is a section titled "Stupidity" :).
Rare Keith1010 Posted August 19, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 19, 2010 I highly doubt it and I actually hope it wouldn't be the case so we are not paying premiums for this kind of stunt. Keith

Thanks Yes, if the reason for missing is a covered one. For example, say you had an injury in the port and by the time the local clinic patched you up you've missed the boat. Almost all insurers will cover the added expense of catching up with the ship and/or reimbursing you for the day(s) of the cruise you're missing and the cost of hotels, meals, etc while waiting to rejoin the cruise. For example, here's from a CSA plan: Under covered reasons for trip interruption: "ost-Departure Trip Interruption We will pay a Post-Departure Trip Interruption Benefit, up to the amount in the Schedule, if: 1) your arrival on your Covered Trip is delayed beyond the Scheduled Departure Date; or 2) you are unable to continue on your Covered Trip after you have departed on your Covered Trip due to your, Family Member’s or Traveling Companion’s Sickness, Injury, or death." And what their trip interruption benefit covers: "We will reimburse you, less any refund paid or payable, for unused land or water travel arrangements, plus one of the following: 1. the additional transportation expenses by the most direct route from the point you interrupted your Covered Trip: a. to the next scheduled destination where you can catch up to your Covered Trip; or b. to the final destination of your Covered Trip;" If you're stuck someplace until you can meet the ship you can also file a trip delay claim that would cover: "If your Covered Trip is delayed for 6 hours or more, we will reimburse you, up to the amount shown in the Schedule for reasonable additional expenses incurred by you for hotel accommodations, meals, telephone calls and local transportation while you are delayed. We will not pay benefits for expenses incurred after travel becomes possible." Covered reasons for trip delay include: "your, a Family Member traveling with you or a Traveling Companion’s Injury or Sickness;"
