Barcelona Area

We were thinking about renting a car or taking the train after our cruise ends in Barcelona to see more of Spain. Has anyone ever done this before and if so where did you go? We were thinking between 5-7 days. Thanks for your help!

Will you have already spent more than 1 day IN Barcelona?

I ask because the city is quite interesting and you can use it as a base for many day trips into the countryside.

Alternatively there are lots of beautiful places to visit in the Catalonia region either along the coast or to mountain villages inland( or a combo of both)

Tarragona, Sitges, Girona can be easy day trips.

There are too many small towns to mention here.

You could also take a train to Madrid for 5 days and then fly home from there.

You can find out lots more Spain info on the Trip Advisor web site which is the "sister site" to this one. There are specific forums there for each area and town so you can ask more specific questions if you like.
