DavyJonesIII Posted August 30, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 30, 2010 So I have never been on a cruise/yachting before. I have always been apprehensive yet my brother and his wife have been on the SD and loved it. They insisted I go with them this year. We are going to the Caribbean on Oct. 31, 2010. Any suggestions for a 1st timer? Any adventures I should make sure to not miss?
Rare DisneyJen Posted August 30, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 30, 2010 Congratulations on picking SD as your first cruise/yacht experience! It is quite different from the mega cruiselines. There are several review on this board that will give you a very good sense of what it is like to spend time on SD. Things not to miss include the Champagne and Caviar Splash, sleeping under the stars and soaking up the service and ambiance on board!
Rare knotheadusc Posted August 30, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2010 SD was my second cruise experience, the first being Royal Caribbean. I must say, SD totally spoiled me against the big ships. I hope you have a great time!

If you read my review from last years St. Maarten/San Juan cruise on page 3 of the SeaDream posts, it will give you a good overview of most of these islands. Have fun. Jim. DavyJonesIII Posted September 21, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted September 21, 2010 Thank you for the suggestions... Sleeping under the stars and the "champagne & caviar splash" are at the top of the list. I just received my packet today and am very excited for my travel aboard SD1. Thank you for your suggestions.... However, I do have another questions. Is the SD geared toward couples? Will traveling without a spouse be uncomfortable? frequent traveler Posted September 21, 2010 #7 Share Posted September 21, 2010 I've done several crossings by myself and have never felt like a social pariah for doing so (except for my own faux pas. . . but that's another story or two . . . .) If you would like to sit with people at dinner but don't feel comfortable introducing yourself let the Hotel Manager or Maitre D know. Since many of the couples who do travel together often have different habits (one is a early riser, early to bed - the other likes to haunt the casino, piano bar . . .) you may always find others with your interests. On our jaunt in Europe this summer, we had one solo traveler on one leg of our BtB - he didn't seem to have a problem joining in groups when he wanted to and wandering on his own at other times. Have fun. FT
