journeys0404 Posted September 17, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 17, 2010 Sailing on the Solstice and taking our parents for their anniversary what side is better and why? Going Barcelona roundtrip . thanks
CathyCruises Posted September 17, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 17, 2010 We like the port side for that cruise, since for the first few ports at least you will have the Riviera coastline out your window or balcony. Nothing like waking up and being docked in the bay at Villefranche, with the Corniches beautifully lit up the mountainside.
GSPLover Posted September 18, 2010 #3 Share Posted September 18, 2010 I do not think that it really matters when you are out to sea. You are so far (5 miles or more) offshore that you really cannot sea anything. When you are in port it is a coin toss as to what you will see - good or bad. You never know how they will dock the ship at the pier (in forward this time, in backwards last time.)

Agree. Also depends whether on a smaller cruiseline or one of the big ones, but all in all for the Med no difference.
Rare Keith1010 Posted September 19, 2010 #5 Share Posted September 19, 2010 I have sailed the Mediterranean often and it really doesn't matter. Even when in port you never know which way the ship will be docked. We try to get a cabin that is more mid ship and we don't focus on which side it is located on. Bobal Posted September 19, 2010 #6 Share Posted September 19, 2010 I agree with Keith. It doesn't matter as you never know which way you'll dock. Also some of the West Med ports, such as Livorno and Civitavecchia are not pretty at all and even sailing in and out there's not much to see. GSPLover Posted September 20, 2010 #7 Share Posted September 20, 2010 I think that the only port that side may make a difference is Venice (if you are sailing in); in this case you want starboard side so you can enjoy coffee from your balcony and the sights of Venice. Departing Venice it makes no difference; you want to be on one of the upper decks. Beyond this, as I stated before, I don't think that side makes any diffeence.
