Cabanas on Private Island.Half Moon Cay

Which cabana (what color) is the closest to the dock on the island.

Want to reserve one for my husband's 80th birthday celebration on the beach, but want one that is fairly close to the dock, and not way way the beach..too long a walk for him. Is there a map of the island someplace on-line?

Note the price is all the same for them, but which one is the most convenient when getting off onto Half Moon Cay? Thanks for your help.

If you go over to the Private Islands board there are 3 large threads answering just about every imaginable question about the Cabanas on HMC.

You may realize the first cabana may not be the most desirable, as there will be a ton of people around. But if mobility is an issue then it is the one you probably want.

The first one is handicap accessible, as there is an entrance with no stairs. I have heard that sometimes people come into the cabana using that entrance, not realizing it's a private place.

You might want to consider the second cabana because of this.

Or, as loosygoosy notes, use the shuttle to any of the cabanas. The problem with the shuttle can be getting from the roadway down to the cabana. The sand is soft, yet steep.

Hello,

The first cabana is the Taupe . It is in a really great location only a 2 minute walk to the restrooms and maybe three to the lunch area. They will deliver you to your cabana by private tram if you request it when you get on the island.

The first one does have a ramp from the sand on the side up into the cabana[but not all the way to the beach.]It is very near the road to this cabana but you do have to go down a somewhat path made of inlade rock to get to the rmp... and yes as Ruth said.. the sand is soft and not easy if you get off it there. The cabana is set up so that you can just slde a longer across the ramp once yo are in the cabana and no one can enter in it. We travel with my disabled husband and sister , and they are able to easily walk to the restrooms and lunch from there. It is first so occasionally there will be more people on the beach around your cabana, but we have never found this an issue. We get that cabana every year when we cruise[for the last 5 years anyway]. The beach is full but never packed and you have plenty of room in the cabana. Also the stewards wll set up your loungers in front of the cabana all the way acoss the front.. thereby blocking acess to your cabana by anyone but yourself. Lots of room! Enjoy!:D

While you get a free shuttle going to your cabana, you don't necessarily get one coming back to the ship as we discovered the hard way. We could both walk back, but it was a long hike. We were in the pink one near the restrooms, a great spot, but not if someone in your party can't walk back to the tendering station.

Hi,

Sevenseasnomad is correct that a tram will not automatically get you to return. But you can just flag down a cruise member or tell your cabana stewards that you need a tram to come get you when you are ready to leave. We always do this and a tram appears for us after 10 or 15 minutes. Just FYI..

The orange one isn't closest to the tender dock, but it is really close to restrooms and the BBQ pavillion. There is a path right behind it leading up to the restrooms and BBQ so very convenient. If you don't feel like getting your own food, the cabana assistant will bring you whatever you want. The cabana does have stairs so a wheelchair-bound person would have problems.
