Bring Gun On Ship??

Post a link, please. Google shows nothing about a DOD 110B form.

Depending on what type of LEO you are you can:

(3) The armed LEO must comply with the following notification requirements: (i) All armed LEOs must notify the aircraft operator of the flight(s) on which he or she needs to have the weapon accessible at least 1 hour, or in an emergency as soon as practicable, before departure.

(ii) Identify himself or herself to the aircraft operator by presenting credentials that include a clear full-face picture, the signature of the armed LEO, and the signature of the authorizing official of the agency, service, or department or the official seal of the agency, service, or department. A badge, shield, or similar device may not be used, or accepted, as the sole means of identification.

(iii) If the armed LEO is a State, county, or municipal law enforcement officer, he or she must present an original letter of authority, signed by an authorizing official from his or her employing agency, service or department, confirming the need to travel armed and detailing the itinerary of the travel while armed.

You are so correct...this form does NOT relate to the topic at hand

Per my Homeland Security friend...( he may be wrong, but he is SMART!)

That is NOT what the S and A for 110B is! Even if you were credentialed to carry on a plane, which no one but the air marshalls and some pilots ( with a few exceptions) -cruises are different as they go to other countries If you have American papers, they are for AMERICAN travel! It is our DOD , not Mexico's or Antigua's or Spain's . If the ship was boarded and the gun was in your cabin--oops! Police officers cannot carry guns on planes unless they have paperwork and the gun is declared and unloaded...same as if I want to take my rifle to Texas!

Get a lock box with the cable that cannot be cut ..attach it to something like the metal bottom of the seat...do NOT just leave a lock box unless it has the cable! And stow it discreetly in your car.

And thank you for your service...sorry about the Christmas sarcasm on the board!

Your quote:

"He can bring it on a plane(in fact they like to have law enforcement on the plane) with the proper paperwork."

You made it sound like LEO's can carry a gun onboard a plane anytime they want. This is not true.

I agreed and said not off-duty. Read my post.

To the OP, unless he's going in an official capacity, nope. As for leaving it in the car. I have a gun safe bolted to the floor under a seat that serves well for leaving it in the vehicle and out of easy reach. Stealin the vehicle or standing there for a long time tryna get it out of the safe is about the only way it's going anywhere. There are several made for this purpose, perhaps he might want to look into getting one.

I remember reading a thread about a year ago where a LEO was in the same situation. He had the safe described in this quote, but decided to make arrangements with the police department in his embarkation port to hold the firearm until he returned. He had a number of conversations with them ahead of time so that they would be expecting him.

OP:

As a 26 year cop and a LE firearms instructor I will echo what others have said. No, he can't carry on the ship. I also doubt a local PD would hold the weapon for him. You could contact a firearms dealer in the area and see if they would store it for him.

To the guy questioning why an off duty Officer would carry:

Federal Law allows nationwide concealed carry for Law Enforcement Officers. Some (not many anymore) Departments mandate that Officers carry a weapon off-duty. With the terrorist threat, be glad that there is often an armed cop around to protect your family.

The discussion reference carrying on an aircraft has been fairly accurate. The federally required class is widely available to Police Officers. Unless you are a Federal Officer, it is not easy to carry on the flight unless you have a very good reason and documentation from your Department stating the reason. Even then, the Captain of the aircraft has the final say.

This question has been asked before. You can search 'gun' on the forum if you want to see what has been answered. Here is one response:

From Keggs_honeymoon:

"Thank you all for your comments. I called RCI, and they will store a weapon, however, with all the international laws, hoops to jump, documents to fill out (probably in triplicate!), etc, it would be more trouble than it's worth. Afterwards, I spoke with the local Sheriff's department. They will store the weapon for us for the duration of the cruise as a professional courtsey. :) Problem solved! Jakenashleymom, you might want to have your hubby look into that as an alternative, so he won't have to make a special trip home simply to store his weapon. :) "

I agree. And as a concealed weapons license holder with personal defense firearms training, I carry most everywhere on land that I can by law but when it comes to cruising, the pistola stays on land :)

They simply will NOT let him board with it no matter what kinda LEO he is.

Enjoy your cruise!

Good for the cruise lines. Leave the guns at home where your job is.

Very good suggestion. I will let him know. Thanks to all those who have helped. I didn't mean for this to turn into a debate. Just some advise on what he can do with his gun while on the cruise. ;)

My last post here:

I posted:

No, you cannot carry a gun on a plane if you are off-duty. No amount of paperwork can change that. If on-duty escorting a prisoner you can carry. The gun would have to be declared and checked if off-duty. Every LEO would/should know that.

You posted:

Ummm yes you can, it's called a "flying while armed" form and any LEO would/Should know that.

I did state OFF-DUTY. You did not state he is a FED, if he is.

Sorry if I pay attention to the little details, its my job.......

That would absolutely work just fine... if only the bad guys would stay at home, AND there weren't any bad guys along the way. Sadly, we live in the real world, where bad guys do pretty much whatever they want.

Awwww thanks Kat and I am totally looking into the bolted to the ground safe as I speak. Hubby probably already is aware of them but I guess he wanted to see what other options are out there. I think the safe is a great idea for the long haul though. Thanks so much for your kind words!
