Thanks for your help! Carnival no longer has "formal" night. They changed to "elegant" a few years ago. It seems like almost anything goes so a shirt and tie is going to be more than fine. tak81288 Posted January 1, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 1, 2011 A shirt and tie are fine...a jacket isn't required...
Colorado Kat Posted January 1, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 1, 2011 You'll probably see a couple of tuxes. Some suits. More sports jackets. But a nice shirt and tie is fine. Some women wear long, formal gowns, more wear shorter dresses. I usually go with a dressy top and black dress pants.
deemk Posted January 2, 2011 #5 Share Posted January 2, 2011 would this be the same for RCCL? we've cruised Carnival and they are pretty lenient with the dress cod. we are going Adventure of the Seas in a couple weeks. how strict are they there? i want to pack as light as possible and it gets hard with 4 kids. RCI still has 2 formal nights on a 7 day cruise and they do have a suggested dress for the evening. That does not mean that everyone follows it though which I don't agree with. You don't have to go to the main dining room if you want to opt out of formal nights. There are lots of other places to eat depending on which ship. We did not take formal clothing on our Oasis cruise last spring and ate in a specialty dining room both formal nights which are always smart casual. gerif Posted January 2, 2011 #10 Share Posted January 2, 2011 I'm not familiar with these specialty dining rooms. Do they cost extra? Yes, $20-25, but you can also eat at the buffet where you can dress as you please.
Colorado Kat Posted January 2, 2011 #11 Share Posted January 2, 2011 As for the kids. They will probably wear the nice shirts for as short a time as possible, so they can keep wearing the same thing each night. Let them change back to comfy clothes right after dinner.
