If not Dublin than where???

Having done this port in the past any suggestion for a day trip somewhere else? We are there from 7-6 pm on the Crown Princess in May.

Ireland has lots of interesting places, but many are over in the west. But if you want to rent a car for the day you might want to consider driving to Newgrange (you can Google the place). Its quite interesting an takes about an hour (or less) each way from Dublin.

Ditto Hlitner but another area to consider is the Wicklow Mts and include Powerscourt Gardens which are close to Dublin, take the Military Road thru the mts and then head to Glendalough, site of an ancient monastery.

One of my most favorite days in Ireland was when we happened upon a "caeli" (sp?) at the Meeting of the Waters on a Sunday afternoon! It appeared to be a very popular destination for Irish folk who were dancing and enjoying the music- and a pint or two, of course. And we followed suit. The setting was picture-perfect. It was definitely not touristy! (Not to say that our evening at the caeli held at Johnnie Fox' pub near Enniskerry wasn't enjoyable in its own right.)
