Bringing Wine Onboard

I believe that you can bring wine onboard. You get charged $15 for corkage, and then possibly a gratuity on top of that. How is that enforced? Do you first declare it when u board the ship? And how are u billed? And can u drink for free the last night-perhaps if you buy alcohol on ur trip they give it back to you the last night. Thanks all.

When you go through security (x-ray) at the pier there will be a table where you are charged the corkage fee. It will be added to your on-board account. And, they will put a sticker on your bottle(s). That way the dining staff knows you already paid and you won't be charged twice if you bring a bottle with you to lunch or dinner.

Regarding the alcohol you purchase, we used to get it the night before. But, lately, we've not been able to pick it up until the morning of disembarkation.

Thanks. Do they keep the bottles, or do you get to take them to your room? May want to have a drink or two in the room before dinner. And what if you change your mind and don't drink all the wine? You get a refund? Doubtful I assume on that one.

You pay the $15 for each 750ml. Sometimes more for larger bottles. You pay when you board, or if you leave it in your checked bags and they find it, they call you to the naughty room and you pay then.

You can drink it in the room, on deck, in a restaurant or dump it overboard. Your choice. No extra gratuity is charged.

You keep the bottles.

If you pay the corkage on a bottle of wine and then do not open it, you can request a refund of the corkage fee provided you show the unopened bottle and the receipt that you paid the corkage on it.

We brought a very nice bottle of Port and very nice bottle of wine, paid the corkage fee and kept them both in the room. The EPIC has a central wine storage area and you can leave it with them and then access it from any restaurant or bar on the ship. We ended up with two more bottles of wine on our cruise and just left it in the wine storage for dinner. We enjoyed the Port after dinner. Corkage fee was $15 and well worth it based on what we would have paid on board for comparable wines. I believe a glass of Port was $12 for far less quality than we brought with us.

So can you only take wine onboard as you embark or can you buy a bottle or 2 when in Port?

If in Port - does anybody know how expensive wine is in the Alaskan Ports?

Thanks Leanne

Yes, you can buy wine in port and pay the corkage.

Alaska wine is a bit more expensive than in the lower 48 based on our experience.
