gfleischha Posted March 7, 2005 #1 Share Posted March 7, 2005 If you are a smoker you need to know, that smoking on this ship is now very limited. Smoking is allowed inside in the Colony Club on Deck 6 in the back of the ship, the casino, and the Starquest Lounge at the top of the ship. Outdoors you can smoke on deck 5 starboard side and the top decks 11 and 12 starboard side. There are no ashtrays, you can get and take to your lounge chairs to smoke. You have to get up and go to the few ash trays on the starboard side to smoke. This is a big change since we last cruised the radiance as you could then smoke in every bar in certain sections. gfleischha Posted March 7, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted March 7, 2005 Lot's of people partying, we were out every night until 2 in the morning and only one obnoxious drunk and he was that way every single night.
DON M. Posted March 7, 2005 #4 Share Posted March 7, 2005 People who drink and party should be limited to one side of the ship!
Tmmull Posted March 7, 2005 #5 Share Posted March 7, 2005 I'm game for that, as long as it's the NON SMOKING side!

dc-snoopy Posted March 7, 2005 #7 Share Posted March 7, 2005 The Schooner bar is non smoking? Sure hope not. And we hope it is. Not only were we smoked out of the Schooner and couldn't participate in the sing-a-long piano bar, but it was h*ll on DW even walking through the Schooner to get to evening activities in the Safari club on the Jewel. Trying to swim through the billowing clouds of smoke was deadly since she was allergic to the smoke. Even walking with a hankerchief over her mouth and nose was pretty difficult. The problem is that there isn't sufficient ventillation in those bars nor a high enough ceiling to have it smoking. If either ventillation or ceiling were higher, at least the non-smokers could walk through.
DON M. Posted March 7, 2005 #8 Share Posted March 7, 2005 There are only a few places left that allow smoking. How long does it take to walk thru the bar? I get headaches from loud talking around the pool and at dinner. STRESS is the #1 killer.
gfleischha Posted March 7, 2005 Author #9 Share Posted March 7, 2005 The Schooner Bar, the lobby bar, the champange bar, all inside bars except the 2 I listed in the original post are now non smoking.

ckrobyn Posted March 7, 2005 #12 Share Posted March 7, 2005 I am a smoker ( a considerate one of course) and we were on the Radiance February 13th. For all you smokers, there are still plenty of places to smoke as the OP listed. I did not feel inconvenienced in the slightest by having to go outside for a smoke. The Colony Club is smoking, but the Schooner is not. While I was at the pool, I simply walked over to the starboard side for my smoke, and walked back to my lounge chair again. There were some folks that used empty beer cans as ashtrays so they wouldn't have to get up everytime they wanted to smoke. For all you non-smokers: There are more than enough non-smoking venues aboard the ship so you should be very comfortable. There will always be those that break the rules ( especially around the pool) and all you need to do is tell the pool attendant and they will deal with it. On our sailing I saw the attendant ask people who were smoking in a non-designated area to "butt out". I think the Radiance has struck a nice balance in smoking and non-smoking areas. emcemt Posted March 7, 2005 #13 Share Posted March 7, 2005 Well said ckrobyn....On our last trip on the Adventure there were still many smoking areas as well. I do consider myself a curtious smoker and find more discortious nonsmokers than smokers. For all the nonsmokers out there that are going to chime in on how great it is that more smoking areas are being taken away from people that follow the rules I have one thing to remind you of........the Paradise. Remember the only smoke free cruise ship......well it couldnt fill up and make money so smoking is once again allowed on it. I think as long as smokers stick to the smoking areas to smoke there should be no problems with everyone getting along. ANd like ckrobyn said....if you see someone smoking where they shouldn't be...inform someone.

ANd like ckrobyn said....if you see someone smoking where they shouldn't be...inform someone. emcemt, perception is everything. smokers are likely to find more discourteous non-smokers and non-smokers are going to find more discourteous smokers. You only have problems or conflicts with people that aren't in accord with you. I personally don't feel that we need to reduce the number of places that smoking is allowed as much as eliminate smoking in those places that are throughways to other places (like the Schooner bar and the Casino). I find that making people have to walk through a smoking area to get somewhere is the problem. There should be a path through from one area of the ship to another without having to travel through a smoking zone. Regarding the Casino, our alternative is to have to go up a floor or down a floor to traverse the ship...at least it was an alternative. Before this, we had no alternative through the Schooner club as there is no other route to get to the Colony Club, the billiards and card clubs, Chops and Portofino's. And regarding the Paradise, the ship was full for nearly six years. The problem was that the ship only did two routes, alternating Eastern then Western Caribbean and back again. If the ship had maintained its non-smoking status when it migrated to the California coast (where only one in seven smoke as opposed to one in four elsewhere in the US) between the lower smoking rate and the different itinerary, it would likely have been fine. Misinformation is a huge killer too, Don. If you have asthma or allergies (and I have both) walking through a smoky bar can trigger a deadly attack. My husband and I had to wend our way through a crowded Schooner Bar on our last cruise--granted, I had my inhaler with me, but as someone has pointed out, the ventilation is NOT adequate. BADBUOY Posted March 7, 2005 #17 Share Posted March 7, 2005 I think they should build a smoking deck right beside the ship's smoke stacks so all the smokers can feel right at home and leave us to breathe nothing but fresh air. BD

I don't like smoke either. I agree, I think the ship could make a huge difference in the smoking areas just by increasing the ventilation. I am wondering if there is smoking allowed on in the Champange bar on the Grandeur - b/c our cabin is very close to there. I will have to move if that is a heavy smokers area. I emailed RC to ask, and am still awaiting a reply.

As far as recommendations, well I don't know what you like in a cruise, only what you dislike in a cruiseline, so I doubt without more information on what things you really enjoy, that I could help very much.:p :D jc
