List of things S&S card is used for

S&S is used for everything on the ship, except room service tips as already mentioned.

You can still use cash for Bingo and the casino, at least on the ships I've been on in the last couple of years.

You can settle your account at the main desk any of your onboard spending if you don't want it to show up on your credit card statement. We always pay it on the day before debarkation.

I also would like to know why not..........

Theoreticaly, if someone found your card and walked around the whole ship trying to find which door it opened, they could then open the door and open your safe. The odds of this happening are astronomical, but using some other card for the safe is the cheapest insurance you can by.

Other reasons?

Now thinking about this, do most people keep their room key and their safe key in the same card holder or on the same lanyard?

A stupid question.I will need to know next year ......why not ? :o

You do NOT use it for your safe because then, anyone with access to your room, such as staff, could get into your safe. I use my library card as opposed to a credit card. Any card with the magnet strip works.

Ok so you have to swipe the card to use the safe.Sorry in Australia all our ships still have safes with numeric keypads.

If I remember correctly you don’t need a CC or a card with a magnetic strip. The safe uses a key pad you enter a 4 digit number into. No card needed. At least that’s how it was on the Ecstasy and Liberty.

As as what you need your S & S card for...everything! You need it to make shipboard purchases, get off the ship and then back on at ports, they will want to see it your first time in the MDR, you will need it to open your cabin door, you will need it if you need help at the purser desk, pretty much ANYTHING you do on the ship will require that S & S card.

The real reason is that by using your S&S card for the safe is that the magnetic strip will sometimes become desensitized and will no longer work to open your cabin door. Don't worry about loosing your card because it does not have your cabin number on it thus making it pretty much impossible for someone to find which cabin it belongs to.
