Vegas Vic Posted April 21, 2011 #1 Share Posted April 21, 2011 Identical Eastern itineraries except for the stop in Nassau: Oasis 7 am - 2 pm, and Allure 7 am - 1 pm. Anyone know why?
Rare Familygoboston Posted April 21, 2011 #2 Share Posted April 21, 2011 Just speculation on my part, but as I lounge on my balcony watching all the sail aways, it's a pretty precision operation...often several ships in port all needing to sail away inthe late afternoon. They all have their time set so the pilot boats etc can go from one to the next. My speculation is that Oasis has been around a bit longer and " earned" a later departure over the other ships there than Allure has or there are just fewer ships in Nassau on a Sunday, than on Monday when Allure calls. More speculation: the earlier the ship departs the sooner the shops, and casinos can open and we all get our pre dinner drinks on board.
chef_christoph Posted April 21, 2011 #3 Share Posted April 21, 2011 Because Allure is 2" longer than Oasis there is extra wind resistance and drag causing Allure to take an hour longer to reach the next port of call. Therefore Allure must leave an hour earlier than Oasis. :D ;) :D

MCC retired Posted April 21, 2011 #5 Share Posted April 21, 2011 Less time in Nassau for the Allure ? I'd chose the Allure
ehfl Posted April 21, 2011 #6 Share Posted April 21, 2011 It seems pretty obvious that the ships share the port with other cruise lines. The ships change daily, and thus the time allowed changes daily too.
Vegas Vic Posted April 21, 2011 Author #7 Share Posted April 21, 2011 It seems pretty obvious that the ships share the port with other cruise lines. The ships change daily, and thus the time allowed changes daily too. When Allure is in Nassau, there are no other ships scheduled all day. When Oasis is there, another ship is scheduled to depart at the same time. Ship traffic in the port doesn't appear to be a factor at all.

Canusa02 Posted April 21, 2011 #9 Share Posted April 21, 2011 As long as I get my conch fritters, my visit to Senor Frogs, and a quick walk through the shopping district I don't need the extra hour.
