MAGIC - Our Photo Review of the Inaugural Sailing of the Magic

Recommended Posts

So after enjoying the RedFrog Pub, we headed to dinner again in the Southern Lights dining room. Food again was very good, service still a little spotty. After dinner we caught the end of the Welcome Aboard show where our new friend Dick Little stole the show. We then wandered through the casino and actually left up a little and decided to call it a night. After all tomorrow was our first port of call.....Dubrovnik, Croatia :)

Wow, loving the photos and review. Can't wait for the next lot.....I've never been so interested in reading a review and looking at ALL the photos. Thanks so much for taking the time and all the effort to post.

Have to laugh, love the Beer tower in the Red Frog....so I can assume that these are readily available.

We did these in Penang in 2006, never heard of them until then, and they were great when there's a few of you drinking it.....doesn't last very long....even with just 4!!!:):):)

"Cove" balconies look interesting, seems that if it gets rough there's big metal doors to close over the slider and presto! you're now in an "inside" :(

See #s 113 onward.

Our group had agreed to meet in the Lido at 7:30 for breakfast. It was pouring rain out, was a grey, blustery day and that turned off some of the folk in our group. However a group of 6 adventurous sorts said we were going to explore Dubrovnik regardless.

We disembarked and went checking out options to get to the Old Town. There was a shuttle bus service for 8 euro pp return. Taxis were 10 euro one way. We had 6 of us so the taxis were actually cheaper and gave us more flexibility. We grabbed a taxi and were on our way.

About 10 minutes later we were at the Pile gate. The were 2 main items we had wanted to do today.....walk the walls and take the cable car up. Just inside the Pile gate to the right is where you buy tickets to access the wall. However when we went in, we were told they only accept the local currency, Kuna. We headed back outside the gate as we had seen an ATM there...it was out of service. There was a second ATM just a little further from the gate and we got our Kuna there. The ATM is actually in the same building that houses the Dubrovnik Tourist Board so we got our Kuna outside and our maps inside (there are other ATMs on the main street within Old Town). We headed back through the gate, purchased our tickets (70 Kuna pp) and were good to go.

We spent about 2 hours walking the entire length of the walls, with one stop in a great little cafe when the rain really picked up. I think the pictures will best describe our day here but Dubrovnik was great and I strongly recommend walking the walls (but there are lots of stairs....and not just to get onto the walls but all along the wall).

Crusinskier - is the shuttle you mention run by Carnival? I assume both the shuttle and taxi accept euros? Thanks for all the info, it is really a big help.

Wonderful review & pictures so far. Thanks so much for sharing. And I appreciate the picture showing the view from your balcony to deck 5. Your cabin is 3 down from the one we have in December, helps with the visual. :D

I'm really enjoying your review. Can't wait until the Magic gets to Galveston. We're booked for next January.

There was a picture several pages back, when you were on your cabin, of a S&S card in a slot on the wall. The caption was something about power when you put your card in. What was that all about? Maybe I'm dense, but I don't get what it is.

Flip, the shuttle was not run by Carnival but was an independent company that picked up at the pier. Yes both the shuttle and taxi took euros. And to clarify we took 2 taxis for the 6 of us as there was a max of 4 per taxi. With 3 people in each taxi it was cheaper than the shuttle and we were able to leave immediately.

Just amazing!

I love the look of the RedFrog!

Dubrovnik is way more beautiful than I ever would have imagined! Good for you for going exploring despite the weather. Can you imagine having missed that

rnvattes, I have to agree. The more research we did, the more we were looking forward to seeing Dubrovnik. And we were glad we did!!!

Sewet, the rooms have the slot to insert the card to activate power for the room. Any card will do (i.e. credit card....it does not have to be a room key). This is a way to save power when you are out of the rooms. Both of the hotels we stayed at in Murano and Barcelona also had this feature.

Meyer2, we found it was a very convenient spot for the room. Just 2 quick floors up to food in Lido, pools, etc. Also, just 3 flights down to the Promenade with the Red Frog, Ocean Plaza and the Casino. We also found the area of the room very quiet. Enjoy your cruise in December!!
