Is it safe to leave car at Charleston Port

We'll be driving to Charleston on the morning of our Cruise in June, so a 'park and stay' would not help us since we are arriving on that day. We will be staying one night in Charleston post cruise. We are debating on just leaving the car at the port and I'm just wondering how safe it is there. Is it lit, can people come in to the parking area while ship is out to sea, etc. Our other option is to see if we can park the car at a hotel and stay 'after' the cruise rather than before. We'll be going on another week a vacation after the cruise, so our car will have extra luggage in it. Any advise is appreciated.

according to the ports website, port-of-charleston.com, "vehicle storage is in controlled access areas available only to cruise passengers - not the general public. the sites are secured and patrolled by port police during the cruise." sounds safe enough to me.

We are coming in on Friday but decided to park ours at port because of friends that left

their Cadillac at motel for a week and it was hit and run.

Never again for them and they have parked at this port and bragged on it.

No problem with leaving your car parked at the cruise port terminal in Charleston. We did this a couple of times when Celebrity was sailing out of Charleston and for a recent Thanksgiving cruise on Carnival Fantasy. :)

No problem parking in the security port police controlled parking. When you park your car you will then get on the shuttle to be driven over to the terminal building.
