daveotto Posted May 24, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2011 We just booked Emerald for Sept.2011==We did the Grand last Oct. and loved it!!! Had a mini--upgrade fairy--loved it--Yes we had some problems Elevators not working as expected all week-Even had a waterfall flood one day in the Elevators--1st time in anytime dining and not impressed with service-(yes we spoke to MD and hotel Mgr) no help-may go back to regular dining- My wife is a Brit--We are not smokers--but spent every nite after dinner in the Snookers Bar just outside the Theatre-with a cigar and made many friends- Wife claimed it was very much like a British Pub --Pub Lunch was very authentic and very good- We are seeking opinions on Emerald--Is there a casual Pub like Snookers==Opinions on Anytime vs regular dining on Emerald -(wife feels with regular dining the staff gets to know you and cares a bit more) So--If anyone has sailed both or has opinions on Emerald please post Thanks Thanks
flamomo Posted May 24, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2011 I was just on the Emerald in March and she has The Speakeasy Cigar Lounge on the Fiesta deck in a corner of the casino. Very cozy; beverages are available. There were some who were obvious regulars, as they sat together and chatted in the evenings. My friends and I had Anytime Dining (we were a group of 7), had great service, and were able to pre-reserve our table for the entire cruise, so we had the same wait staff every night. Not meaning to seem rude, but your font is hard to read. It all seems to run together in a haze of blue. Might be better if you reduce the size a bite and not use "bold" type. :0)
san diego sue Posted May 24, 2011 #3 Share Posted May 24, 2011 Problems on the Grand are still there but probably worse. Ship remodel is beautiful but they gave it a facelift but the body is still old. Elevators are locking you in, shooting up to floors you didn't want, toilets have flushing problems for hours, cold water showers, The worst is the Pursers desk, the biggest screw ups I ever encountered on any Princess ships. So are you asking which ship is better, here is your answer.

Loved the new Alfredo pizzeria in the atrium and the upgrades in some of the public areas, but it is still and old ship with seriously malfunctioning elevators and very dated cabins and bathrooms and the plumbing has chronic issues. We found the Pursers, as a group, to be inefficient and disinterested and prone to giving erroneous information. That can change, of course, as the crew changes, but it added to the frustration. You will find the Emerald an excellent choice.
daveotto Posted May 25, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted May 25, 2011 Yes, we did encounter all that and more- but all together we had a great time and would do the Grand again. Far from perfect- but my wife liked the British feel- and teh upgrade fairy did us a mini at OV price!!!-- It appears the Emerald while a newer ship may have the Bigger is not better with more pax problems-As inicated we are not smokers but did do Snookers every nite with a cigar just to hang out. Nites were very quiet-- pax was much older than on past cruises--We like to party when onboard and the Islands--
