Venice Hotel and Transfers

Hi everyone...just booked the 8/8/2012 Regatta from Venice to Athens. Has anyone used Oceania's hotel and transfers in Venice? We have been to Venice before and loved it. I'm curious if the transfer is via boat or car, etc. Also, how are the hotels?

 

BTW, this is my first time posting on cruise critic, although I got a ton of info reading the boards for our trip last March on a Royal Caribbean. Any advice would be appreciated!

Are you talking about the INCLUDED hotel or the hotel package?

Depends on the hotel they are offering

You can usually do the hotel & transfer cheaper on your own

 

It is a personal choice

 

BTW

The free transfers for the INCLUDED hotel is only from the Hotel to the ship you must pay for the transfers to the hotel from the airport or find your own way

If you decline the so-called 'free' hotel, you should get $500 additional credit. You can get transfers and 2 nights in a good hotel for $500. This is a pretty cheesy promotion. Sort of like 2 for 1 cruise fares and 'free ' airfare.

I was assured by TA (experienced Oceania specialists) that all transfers were included if you purchased Oceania's pre- and/or post-cruise hotel packages -- airport to hotel, hotel to ship, and then at the other end, ship to hotel, and hotel to airport. Why would this not be so?

If you purchase the pre cruise hotel Package yes you get the transfers to the hotel then to the ship

If you purchase the POST cruise hotel Package you get the transfers to the hotel then to the airport

But as to the new, "so called" free night before sailing -- I thought that was simply an effort to get all passengers into the departing city on time. And if that is the case, then why wouldn't Oceania transfer you from airport to hotel, and then the next day, from hotel to ship, since they transfer you from airport to ship?

Most people fly in a day or more early so Oceania is just capitalizing on making it more profitable for them by arranging a hotel for you ...if you choose to accept it

 

They are in the business to make money;)

If you decline the INCLUDED hotel you get a credit just like if you decline the FREE Oceania air

We used O's hotel Package in '09. They offered the Hilton Molino Stuckey on Guidecca. It was a nice hotel and we found it convenient despite the fact that we had to use the shuttle back and forth to Guidecca. It was part of the fun. Transfers from the airport to the hotel were included and there were no hassles. I would do it again. Yes it's possible to do your own transfers and save $ on the hotel by booking it independently, but Venice transfers can be tricky, and water taxi's are expensive, so for us it was a wash. However, if you should choose the Molino Stuckey, I would look into the transfer the hotel offers. That may be worth it. Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks for the reply and info! Was the transfer from the airport to the hotel via water taxi?

Just about a month ago, we took a water taxi from Nautica's mooring at Basilico to the Piazzale Roma (60 Euros) and taxi from there to the airport (40 Euros) to give you an idea of the cost involved.

 

(We had too much luggage to deal with the crowds on vaporettos and bus)
