Just curious -- do Captains join mid-cruise? I'm looking at the Jewel, think present cruise started on the 2nd?

found out this week that my daughter is getting married 12-31-12....in Florida, not here in Michigan...she's already bought a dress and put a down payment on the reception hall...I guess I'll be very busy so please forgive the slowness of keeping this thread accurate.

Congratulation on your daughter's upcoming wedding. Florida is beautiful in December. We live in Naples and December weddings are very popular. We are currently in Traverse City, MI and you have a very beautiful State also.

 

As so many of the people who follow this thread have said----Thank you so much for keeping this up! We always love to know who the Captain will be when we cruise.

It is possible that Captain Stig joined the ship in Helsinki, Finland which was the third port of call.

We drove through Cadillac on our way to our daughter's. Looked like a beautiful city! Assume your daughter will be getting married in Tampa? Tampa is usually about 5 to 10 degrees cooler than Naples. We had one winter a couple years ago where it turned cold the end of December and stayed that way until Feb. 1. That's our winter season. At least you will not have SNOW :eek:. You'll be fine with a little warmer dress. Us Floridians will be wearing sweaters;).

It could have been the 2nd, I just count the weeks, once the date is past the cruise is no longer on RCI's website so I can't check what date is closest to the rotation date. I'll change it to the 2nd. In fact, in looking at my notes, I did have a note that it would be the 2nd, but someone told me here that it wasn't going to be until the 7th???

Post number 6 in this thread verifies what I have been told about Capt. Claus...sort of. I'd be very surprised if he stays on RD for a full 10 weeks since he's been on Navigator for so long now. But this person was told that Capt. Claus is going back to RD on July 20 as expected.

You shouldn't have to! I just got married in May and 2 weeks before my wedding was pretty quiet. The Monday before was when all payments were due so I was running around paying everyone. You will need that cruise to unwind before the big day. I say keep it!

Oh....I thought I did. Maybe I never said exactly how long. I said it somewhere I think.

 

But the just back from NV cruiser said she may be wrong about the 10 weeks she said Capt. Claus will do on RD. That would make just over 18 weeks. If it's the 4 weeks planned that will be 12 weeks which is more likely. Capt. Bill Wright is supposed to join RD on August 17 but that remains to be seen. Anything can happen and usually does. :)

It is not only possible but in this case true, as Captain Nilsen in fact relieved Captain MacDonald in HEL.

Received this morning from the Master himself......"I will not do 10 weeks but just 4, so the total is slightly better but still a long time away from the family (13 wks). So RD from July 20 to Aug. 17th".

The captains usually rotate 10 weeks on/10 weeks off, although they can make arrangements between each other as long as they are not on longer than 14 weeks or less than 8 weeks. **Note** the info is only as accurate as people post who their master was. It may be off by weeks, even months

That's a tough one, 8-25 is a rotation date IF the captains on Explorer are doing a 10 week rotation. It still could be Capt Loy if he's doing an 11 or a 12 week rotation to give Capt Olav time to get back on his feet (someone posted he was having knee surgery?) If not, Capt Trond Holm from Monarch is available.
