Thanks Patti, I had to get one of my spies to ferret out who the new master on Freedom was (Tore Grimstad) and I suspect I'll have to do the same for Radiance.

 

Why doesn't your signature show your October Brilliance cruise?

I'm not listing all our our cruises, but that doesn't mean that I'm not looking forward to it.;)

That will make it at least 16 weeks on board for Capt. Sindre. :confused: I thought captains weren't to be on the ship for longer than 14 weeks. When he arrived on April 5 he said he would be going home by mid July (about 14 weeks) returning at the end of October since the baby is due the end of September. Does this now mean he will be home until sometime in November?

Since this information came directly from Captain Sindre, I think the upcoming birth of their first child and his wanting to be home both prior to and after the birth has taken precedence over any rotating schedule and that is why he has extended. Looks like he could be home for 4 months or until sometime in November.

He found out during our May 4th cruise that they were going to be having boy so it is possible that maybe his wife was further along then thought when they did the ultra sound.

It's normally a 10 week rotation but things aren't always normal.

Beth, unfortunately, Bobbie does not care to learn all of the facts....hence the fopaw on Captain Sindre.

 

Unfortunately, for some captains, one that come to my mind is Captain Rick Sullivan, who, when I first met him, was the master of the Navigator, and from there went to the Monarch for 2 plus years, and then to the Rhapsody, where he has over 2 years.

 

So, I'm not sure how a master is assigned a ship. There are rumors of some more captains to be moved to different ships this year, but then again, until he/she shows up on a new ship, we will never know for sure.

I've been led to believe that Capt Tore Grimstad is a newly promoted staff captain from Explorer. As far as I know Capt Tor Olsen is staying on Freedom (he hasn't been there 3 years yet).

I think Captain Olsen has only been on for about a year and a half (he was our captain in Feb. 2011) but that was true of Captain Rob also -- they both came at the same time. Will have to figure out rotations to see who we will have in Feb. (flipped the August, 2012 FR cruise to Jan. 2014.

Just back from the 5/24 sailing of Explorer. Our master was Capt Olav Nyseter. He gave no indication that he was going on break beginning with today's cruise, and everything seemed as though he would be continuing. (The CD is changing on 6/7...perhaps they are changing at the same time?)

 

This may or may not be significant but Capt Olav was on crutches for much of our cruise, and limited his appearances at various functions. At the Capt's Q and A, he explained that his knee was bothering him (I believe it's his left knee) and an MRI indicated that it's a bone on bone issue. He didn't directly say whether or not he needed surgery, but implied that it was serious and would need further medical attention. Perhaps this has affected the rotation schedule a bit?

Just off Vision in Gothenburg (diversion from Oslo) this morning. Capt Felix Schrecko Ban was the Master at this cruise.
