Karen - I got this email today from web_reservations regarding our upcoming EX cruise:

 

The Captain and the Cruise Director who are currently scheduled for the Explorer of the Seas sailing May 27, 2012 is Captain Pehrsson and Jimmy Rhodes. However, our Captains and Cruise Directors may change ships throughout their tenure, so please confirm once you are onboard.

Who is Captain Pehrsson?

 

Now, the cruise is actually on May 24, not May 27. And, Richard Spacey has confirmed that he is on the ship as CD until June 7th. So, already this email has several errors, but I thought I'd pass the info onto you anyway!

Having just returned from the 30-Apr to 11-May Honolulu to Vancouver repositioning cruise, I can confirm that Captain Rob is currently on the Rhapsody. We thoroughly enjoyed his wit and sense of humor, especially during his noon updates. He ended his final one with the following gem (I'm paraphrasing): "We'd like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for choosing Royal Caribbean for your cruise vacation. We hope you enjoyed giving us the business as much as we enjoyed taking you for a ride." :D

could Pehrsson be a staff captain? C & A has pulled that one before, naming the staff captain and not the master. Sometimes when one of the masters needs to do something, the stf cpt steps up and runs things for awhile until the regular master gets back. Maybe Capt Olav starts out and Pehrsson takes over 3 days later until Nyseter gets back?

 

If it is a newly promoted master, it wouldn't surprise me if Capt Olav has retired, he'll be 67 this year.

 

You, of course, will have to ferret all this out and report back! :D:D

I was just chatting with my DW, who is presently on the Rhapsody, now just leaving Skagway, and she was on stage last night with captain Rob, and she tells me that he has a wonderful, and very dry sense of humor.

 

On stage, because the LA asked her, as the top cruiser onboard, to speak at the C&A party.:)

 

There is going to be some movements of captain over the summer, so rumor has it, and the rumors are becoming true!!;)

Rick, keep your ears to the ground for me...I need to know who got replaced on Rhapsody (and where did they move to), who's going to Radiance, and who's going to Freedom. One of Grandeur's captains is expecting to be moved when she comes out of dry dock so we can add that ship to the list as well. And then there's the Capt Bill factor...when is he going to announce which ship he'll take and when! Then we get to do this all over again when Monarch leaves the fleet, those 2 captains will need a ship!

Allan Brooks is the current CD on Allure, however Ken Rush reported that he'll be returning as CD for the June 10th sailing through at least the September 2nd sailing. So, it should be Ken Rush unless there is some delay in the changeover.

Sindre joined RD as Master just under a year and a half ago. It's extremely unlikely that he's leaving already. I think that story is a bit jumbled up and confusing. I don't think RCI would move both captains at the same time.

 

It would be nice to know who Claus's replacement will be.

Rick, Capt Sindre is the one who replace Bjorn on Radiance. Capt Stein Bjorsheim is or was on Rhapsody, and he's been there long enough to be moved.

As much as would love him too, he'd be crazy to come back. He's a happy camper working shorter shifts and making more money working on the oil rig supply ships in Norway. But I'll send him a note asking if this rumor is true, he'll get a kick out of it. :D

BTW: He was very kind to me when I had issues with sailing on the Enchantment (there were so many bad reviews a few years ago and I came very close to cancelling) and he was right...she is a great ship, we had a fantastic voyage and now, Baltimore is losing her!:mad:
