wwcruisers Posted August 18, 2011 #76 Share Posted August 18, 2011 Things not to miss in the MDR: -- the various chilled soups (especially the watermelon gazpacho); -- the vidalia onion tart (appetizer); -- the lunch salad bar (only available on sea days); OK, now I'm hungry!
the-artman Posted September 3, 2011 #77 Share Posted September 3, 2011 I forgot to add: stay away from the coffee - its yucky! ;) Try the freshly brewed filter coffee at the coffee bars (for an extra fee). That's real coffee, not reconstituted from a coffee syrup. Arthur
lrn2cruise Posted September 3, 2011 #78 Share Posted September 3, 2011 Do not get the Clam Chowder! It taste like they opened a Campbells can. I could not finish it. I asked for another app. I cant remember what I got. Dh cant either but it was better whatever it was!
moknits Posted September 3, 2011 #79 Share Posted September 3, 2011 I also love the chilled fruit soups. On our most recent cruise in March, I skipped the watermelon soup for a salad but then regretted it. When it was time to order dessert, I asked the waiter if it might be too late to get the watermelon soup for dessert. He offered to bring it out in a glass with a straw! It was perfect as a smoothie, and that became my habit to get the cold fruit soup for dessert.
Host Faith Posted September 3, 2011 #80 Share Posted September 3, 2011 On the first night, I love the chicken tortilla soup, and the mushroom pasta with truffle sauce. Anything with truffles is heavenly to me :).
bartel11 Posted September 3, 2011 #81 Share Posted September 3, 2011 +1 For the cold fruit soups. I could eat those for every course every night.
cruise pup Posted September 3, 2011 #82 Share Posted September 3, 2011 Hi Mjflowers,I agree with you: Think that those animals are killed unnecessarily, when someone does not eat the food he has ordered.:( Unfortunately, whether or not someone eats the food, the animals were killed a long time before they were loaded onto the ship. If the food is going in the trash from the kitchen because it wasn't ordered it's even a bigger waste. They can't re-freeze what's already been defrosted. What about all the food in the supermarkets that goes unsold past the sell by date and then has to be dumped?
erbunny Posted September 4, 2011 #83 Share Posted September 4, 2011 Yes they still have the Savory Bites - I am normally not a big bread eater but I have on of these each night. We order the Indian Entree as a "side" and share it. So glad to see someone finally mentioning the Savoury Bites. Let your waiter know you like them and you will get plenty all week ! Texmike Posted September 4, 2011 #84 Share Posted September 4, 2011 We took 6 cruises on RCC and was disappointed with the food in the main dining room with the exception of Caesar Salad and I always ordered with tomatoes Soups are meant to be hot not cold. The Tiger shrimp were not very fresh at all and cocktail sauce was gross. I hate lobster so never ate that. Steak was only thing I ate since I'm a very picky eater. They never had traditional food. We ate at Chops at least twice on one cruise or at the Windjammer. The only time the food was good in the Windjammer was when they first put it out and open the doors Breakfast and Lunch in the main dining room was the best. gooners1968 Posted September 4, 2011 #85 Share Posted September 4, 2011 On Liberty this August, the lamb shank was lovely, and the prime rib very tender. In fact all the meat we ordered was very well cooked and also cooked to our specification. topcruiser16 Posted September 4, 2011 #86 Share Posted September 4, 2011 My favourite food was the tutti salad bar at the MDR. They open the MDR on sea days and you can get just about anything in a salad. The servers make the salad up right there. Looking forward to this on our next cruise.
