Pre -cruise -Fort Lauderdale

Hi I am wondering if someone can assist me with hotels in Fort Lauderdale.

We are staying one night in Fort Lauderdale in October and taking a cruise out of Miami. I was checking rates on Hotwire and there is a good rate for Hollywood Beach area. Does anyone know if this is a good area to stay, is there any restaurants and shopping near there. Would we be better to stay in the downtown area or the Fort Lauderdale Beach hotel area. We will be taking a shuttle to Miami the next.

If you haven't been to FT. L, I'd personally stay there. Nice water taxi service to see the area and find different restaurants and shopping areas. Don't need a car.

 

Hollywood is about 20 min south of Ft. L.

Hollywood is a nice "beachy" area to stay in between Fort Lauderdale and Miami - shuttle service from there to POM the next day may be more tricky than if you were to stay near FLL (fewer options :(), but if you were going to rent a car anyway I'd say go for it.

The beach is nice in October. If you are getting in early enough to enjoy it, go for the beach. There are more restaurants and shops by the Ft Laud downtown hotels (3* and up).
