We are on the Ms Rotterdam , may 19 2012 cruise to Norway. A few questions:

- anyone know any good excursions to do on your own in either Bergen, Geiranger, Alesund or Eidfjord ?

- when going ashore by tender , does the tender stay in the port and will it return to the ship at fixed times or only at the end of the stay in port ?

thnx,

The tenders cycle constantly. Back and forth.

Have you checked your roll call to see what others are doing on your cruise? Here are the Rotterdam roll calls:

Also try the Northern Europe Ports board, here:

Tenders run pretty much all day long. In the AM it is as fast as they can fill them to get folks off the ship. During the day, they run them every few minutes or when they are full. So you can get off/on the ship pretty much any time.

Don't have any good excursions for you. Sorry.

We were on the Prinsendam which stopped in Alesunde and Bergen this year (among others…but those are the only ones that seem to overlap "yours")…Alesunde is a lovely town you can walk all over yourself…including a walk up to an overlook which is quite lovely. Bergen is a town you'll want to explore on your own and not do any excursions (in my opinion)…lots to do there. The charming shops of the old town are a short walk from the dock. Also, there's a "Fish Market" that is way more than that which has wonderful fresh seafood, etc. cooked right there. We couldn't resist the BBQ'd shrimp! Also…we found the most reasonable sweaters being sold by a lady in the market area. See my photos from the trip http://smu.gs/rt4ur4

Bergen is a beautiful city and there are many things to do. I don't know where the ships dock but in my opinion, this is what I would go see/do:

1. The Floibanen funicular.....takes you to the top of Mt Floyen for a glorious view of the city: http://www.floibanen.no

2. The funicular is near Bryggen (all the old shops) and the fish market. You can cross through and experience the fish market on your way to...

3. The Bergen Aquarium http://www.akvariat.no. Wonderful aquarium, really enjoyed it.

The other place that is sort of neat, history wise, is the Bryggens Museum. http://www.bymuseet.no. Has some of the history of the historic Bryggen portion of town, which has burned multiple times.

Have fun! I'm totally jealous!
