Alaska Newbie Posted December 9, 2011 #1 Share Posted December 9, 2011 Just wondering if there is preboarding for people using wheelchairs or walkers or electric scooters. Have been reading the posts on boarding disorganization and wondering if there are special lines for disabled cruisers.
Hypo Posted December 9, 2011 #2 Share Posted December 9, 2011 Just wondering if there is preboarding for people using wheelchairs or walkers or electric scooters. Have been reading the posts on boarding disorganization and wondering if there are special lines for disabled cruisers. Notify special_needs@rccl.com with the info and assistance that you will need. *Underscore character between special and needs) My DW uses a scooter and we have been instructed to contact the first person we see at the port that is wearing a RCCL uniform. They will direct you as to where to go to facilitate boarding. We always stay in suites and are diamond plus, so we usually go directly to the suites/ D plus check in and then are escorted on board when boarding commences. If you are driving a scooter they may not escort you on board and you will board with the rest of your group. Since the ramps are steep you may need the assistance of a crew member to help push the chair up the ramp. Just ask at checkin and they will assist you. Sequim88 Posted December 9, 2011 #3 Share Posted December 9, 2011 Can't speak exactly for Liberty or the port of departure but we have been amazed by the attention given to my wife. As soon as they see me wheeling her in someone comes and takes her away and I have to hurry to keep up with her. We have always been taken direct to a special lower counter and then checked in there. First time (Miami) we ended up in a lounge area wating to board and boarded very early - even before the photographers were set up. 2nd time in San Juan we were taken direct from the counter to the ship. They have always insisted on their personnel "driving" her on the boarding ramps. Walkers may be different but I suspect scooter would be same procedure. For really specific questions contact the Special Needs department. I have found them very repsonsive to our questions or requests.
gerif Posted December 9, 2011 #4 Share Posted December 9, 2011 Just wondering if there is preboarding for people using wheelchairs or walkers or electric scooters. Have been reading the posts on boarding disorganization and wondering if there are special lines for disabled cruisers. Not sure about Liberty but DH was in a wheelchair on one of our Explorer cruises. While an employee was assigned to wheel him through the line and onto the ship (don't forget to tip), we still stood (sat?) in line and waited our turn with everyone else. Alaska Newbie Posted December 10, 2011 Author #6 Share Posted December 10, 2011 Thank you for the replies. I think my husband will use his electric scooter and we will also take his walker as well. Was just remembering on our princess cruise we had a different entrance and at airports he is usually ushered through a different line.

We also stood in line to wait our turn...but when we got to the head of the line, we were escorted to the elevators and were given priority screening...then wisked away to the check in lines. Actually, the line went pretty quickly.
